researched some place for fireworks in the Hudson valley , and this was the final choice. haven't been to newburgh in 15 years at least and heard they revamped the riverfront. slip cost me only $100 all in , and the customer service was great. its small operation run by a few people , but its a simple marina with no major amenities. the fireworks barge was just south of us and it was perfect. good vibes in the place, and plenty of music coming from the DJ at billie joes ribs. this is a good place for a one nighter to just chill and go to one of the waterfront restaurants. wouldn't call newburgh a "sightseeing city". was bitter sweet, when we got underway the next morning , I lost my stbd motor about 15 minutes out. had a healthy southerly Hudson breeze and some chop from opposite tide. had to limp back on one back to Haverstraw! could not get the motor back and I suspect carb issues. it wasn't the right condition to putz around out there. all in all , great 4th of july experience

Glad you had a great day and thanks for the write-up. Hope the engine's not too much of a pain to sort out!

We had a similar day around the West Palm Beach area, had a front-row spot at anchor and enjoyed the fireworks, an uneventful night out on the hook and back the following day!

Great pic thanks for sharing The crew looked happy! hope the humidity is better then here its been brutal this passed week

Thanks for the write up on Newburgh. We’ve been up to Kingston a few times and have considered spending a night in Newburgh either on the way up or on the way back but have gotten some mixed reviews. Might do it this year.
We had a great boating 4th too. After watching the Jones Beach Show from close up we stayed the night out on the hook.

I did Kingston on my trawler in the early 2000's , haven't been recently. I am familiar with the museum and such , but if you have any recent suggestions of what and where to go and do , would love to hear it

Kingston is great for a night or two and a beautiful ride!
We’ve docked at the City Dock and the Museum. Both are very reasonable and in a great location.
With the 410, I prefer the Museum. They take reservations and will give you a slight discount if you join for the year. It’s all side ties and they’re really nice people.
The City Dock was great when we went with our old 300, but it has limited side tie space and my 410 is a little too long for comfort at their back in slips.
Several good Restaurants. Mariner’s Harbor and Savonahs are two that we usually go to. We tried a new place, The Downtown Cafe, when we were there last year. It’s a unique hole in the wall type place with a chef that cooks your meals on a stove behind the counter. Looks were deceiving and the food was fantastic.
No convenience stores within walking distance so bring enough of the essentials with you. I’m not sure if they have Uber in the area yet.
There is a Marina (Roundout Yacht Basin) with transient slips a bit further in and on the other side of Roundout Creek that has fuel. I’ve gotten fuel there, but never stayed. I think they have a small pool and a place you can barbecue if that suits the family more, but you would need a dinghy (or have to take a taxi) to get across to the area with the restaurants and I think you have to pay a fee to tie it up at the City Dock.
