Marina on the west coast of FL now has 24 hour self service fuel.

Standard fuel dock at a marina. If you pull up during business hours staff is there to grab your line and hand you the fuel hose.

If you are after hours - use your CC and pump fuel.

First time I have seen this, didn't know if it was common in other parts of the country.

We have some at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.....I think they can no longer make them 24 hour pumps but the pumps that were established are grandfathered in.

There is one on Aquia Creek, Virginia, right off the Potomac. Came in handy for me on a transit from the Chesapeake to DC around 8PM. It appeared we were about to run out of fuel before making our destination but it turned out to be a misbehaving fuel tank sensor.

We only have one fueling station in our pool on the Ohio and it is self serve 24/7. In fact the people that own the pump own the marina about 1/2 mile upriver. There is never an attendant there. Swipe your card and fill 'er up

In the WA and OR side of the Columbia River I've never seen a fuel dock with attendants, even at the pumps at some of the larger yacht clubs. Many self serve pumps out here have a limit on credit cards but you can get a card from that oil company that has no limit.

Shhhh.......don’t let the EPA hear that......

Kind of a mix here in the Sacramento Delta. Just went to a self serve pump this past Sunday to top off the dinghy. I have to say I'd feel guilty having an attendant when I'm only buying two or three gallons.

In N.J we had one next to our Marina. I preferred it and often went after hours when it was less crowded. Actually now that I think about it, surprised it was allowed considering you can't even pump your own gas for the car in Jersey???

That is the marina I was originally referring to. They are there.

How did the someone hitting your boat work out?

We have it at our Marina but its not common around me. I love it and we have free self service pump out.
Its the only way to go in my opinion

It's a new thing for me, why I posted. Most of the time I am cruising in areas with high transient traffic.

Its nice to know that if I am headed down the ICW around Sarasota and want fuel - I could pull in and get it after hours. But in reality, most of the time we pull in late afternoon and fuel.

Downside for me is most fuel docks are fixed on piers. May or may not match up with height getting on and off the boat. Swim platform is too low, side door may be too high. If we were tying up for the night, would have steps deployed on the side. Don't really want to have to bother with that at a fuel stop.

Some fuel docks it is nice to be able to have someone that hands me the fuel hose, then I hand the CC and neither of us actually ever get off the boat.

Fiberglass guy down last week. ordering rub rail piece and insert. Told them(and copied the other party ) that he agreed to pay for damages and qualify all orders with him as well, so that there are no issues with payment. Hopefully fixed soon. Thanks for asking.

How do you apply volume or other discounts if there’s no one there to give it to you?

Seems like it is really geared towards boaters buying relative low volumes of fuel. I have never fueled after hours, just during normal coverage areas.

Pull in the with the dingy - they take my card and turn the pump on.

Normally buy a lot of fuel in Venice. Was at Marina Jacks 3-4 weeks ago, we had spent the night there and were running straight to boca grande. Decided to fuel at Marina Jacks instead of adding a fuel stop in Venice.

Tied up, dock hand asked me how much fuel I wanted (I think they preset at the pump when the run the card in), told him somewhere between 200 gallons to 600 gallons - depending on volume discount. After discussion he decided that he would run a bypass card through the dock pump - and run my card inside the dockmasters office after fueling was complete.

So, yes, I got BoatUS discount and volume discount, but only because it was during normal business hours. After hours - thinking no discounts applied.

There is still an attendant there to take your credit card and turn on the pump. He/she will pass the pump to you too ...if you asked.
