Good Morning - I love seeing all of these updates. Unfortunately today I'm looking for some help with an engine issue. I'm having an intermittent problem with my Starboard engine stalling and not restarting. I have had the engine stall multiple times now and each time the conditions were different. Engines are 7.4 MPI.
- Last fall after cruising for about 25 minutes at ~3000 rpms the engine stalled while underway. I limped back to the dock on one engine and put the boat away. When i revisited a month later it started immediately.
- This spring when de-winterizing the engine started and idled for about 5 seconds then stalled and would not start. tried to start again the next day and still nothing. Asked the mechanic to look at it and they said it started easily when they checked it.
- Yesterday - Ran for about 20 minutes at ~3000 rpm. Died when i pulled back to idle into the dock. Would not restart. Tied up to the dock and got in the engine compartment. Everything seems normal although I do have a significant transmission fluid leak that I'm going to have addresses. Access is very limited but I was trying to find the wiring harness for the fuel pump. I have a friend that had issues with the fuel pump connector. As I was trying to trace wires etc I reached over and grabbed the bundle of wires coming off of the starter. When i grabbed that I heard a short screech sound. I tried to start the engine again and it fired up immediately and ran fine for the 20 minute run back to my home dock.
- Is there an interlock between the trans and the engine? If the trans gets low on ATF can it cause the engine to shut down? I did add ATF yesterday.
- Where is the fuel pump located on the 7.4MPI, and does anyone have a wiring diagram for the engine?
