Upgrading Electronics

I have a new Garmin 942xs MFD, and all firmware/software is updated to the latest level. I spoke with Mercury Marine Tech support and they claim it should be plug and play with my setup. Engines (Twin Merc 8.1S Gas) and were setup from factory with Smart Craft (sc5000). I then spoke with Garmin and after looking into the device log, it is seeing the Mercury Gateway, but it’s not receiving any data. After running diagnostics overview, the system indicates it’s not receiving data. At this point, Garmin is thinking the system does not have enough power and thinks I might need another power source. (Not too sure about that). Mercury Marine thinks it could be an incorrectly terminated NMEA 2000 backbone (if it was not properly terminated, something would not have worked before adding the Gateway), or bad Gateway. Thinking it might be the gateway, especially after reading the link above....

Latest update:
I replaced the Gateway with another new unit. Plugged it in, both the NMEA and CAN lights turn on, fire up engines.....and (again) no engine data is being transmitted. ‍♂️ Frustrating! Mercury tells me the instances should be set correctly, otherwise I wouldn’t get data on my SC5000 display.

The only thing I haven’t tried is to add an additional power source as suggested above. Guess that will be next...

Has anyone encountered this issue?

I'm more familiar with the diesel version but doesn't your setup have two junction boxes (port/stbd) and a connection from each to the SC5000? I needed to have a crossover cable between the j-boxes when I went Diesel View to the single connection for VesselView. I believe I have seen references to that about gas installations as well. Has that come up with Mercury? It was also important to plug the VesselView in to the starboard j-box.

My 340 only has one Junction Box (4 port), which I switched out with a 6 port.

Are you using all 6 ports? If not is the 6th terminated?
Yes, the 6th port has the terminator/weather cap that comes with the Junction Box.

Finally figured out the issue I was having.

If I disconnect the SC5000 System View wiring from my 6 port Junction Box, my GPS/Chartplotter receives engine data instantly via NMEA 2K.

Called Merc Service (again) and the Tech Service Manager said, “oh yeah, that’s right, you need to change the service diagnostic setting from 1 to 2 on the System View”. A few shortcut key prompts later....everything works! Apparently the other 3 techs I spoke with over the last 4 weeks did not know this?!?
