Does any one have a procedure to disinfect the fresh water tank. Haven't been to the boat in two weeks and have some funky smells coming from fresh water tank. Would like to flush and sanitize/disinfect tomorrow

Thanks in advance

Also it is isolated to the "hot" water only. If a faucet is running cold water then their is no odor.

We did note that there was some residual "pink" antifreeze in the system this spring which the marina informed us was from the hot water system not properly being bypassed during winterization.

It's a common problem for unused hot water tanks not just on boats but in vacation homes, RV etc too.

If you can drain it, and add a bit of hydrogen peroxide it should fix it.

I used the west marine water tank flush last fall on my 520DB system.

When we had the sea trial last fall we all had to leave the cabin after running any of the faucets it smelled so bad. PO didn’t use the boat too much over the summer. The treatment worked well (I flushed the tank and all faucets 5-6 times) and now I continue to put in a daily treatment each time I fill the water tank. No orders at all. I am sure the west marine chemicals can be had cheaper using something no name but I had good results with them

Like Jeremy said keep flushing with the West marine treatments or our brand. This same thing happened to me on a boat that sat for a year+ untreated.

The last resort is a touch bleach not recommended but it will work.

The important thing is to use the tank all the time and keep putting in the water treatments. It will go away.

Also, put a water filter on your fill water too.

I also like using this too after you get the odor out

Thanks guys

Will report back next week. Tried the west marine route. It has initially cleared up

we don't use the water tank in our 215 ec, but we have a motorhome that sometimes has the same issue..........easiest way, if you have a way to drain the freshwater tank and hot water tanks, is to drain hot water tank, fill fresh water until almost full, add 1/4 cup of regular clorox to each 15 gallons of fresh water tank volume........run water thru system until you smell bleach at faucets, let sit at least 4 hours (overnight works best), drain everything, rinse, and refill tanks with fresh water........we did this to our bus just last week, very little effort...............now, fresh and clean for upcoming adventure................
