I’m getting new vinyl for the cockpit seats, and we have huge books from the vinyl installer and we are going to try and find a match. The seats on the captains chair look new, the backs of the cockpit all look really good as well. However, the actual seats that sit horizontal are not good. Does everyone just find a match or is there a specific brand of vinyl and color (Sea Ray mystic white??) that any good installer can purchase?
Good news? This will be “free”, not really but my wife is taking out in trade. (No jokes about my wife’s profession! She is a CPA, get your mind out of the gutter...)

You can see the difference here. The sunpad insert is new from PO, and it doesn’t match, but that is fine. You can see the upholstery backs are much better but the seats are dingy (do not let the wife clean your seats with an abrasive, magic eraser).

Tough to match. I am doing a Sea Ray 290SS right now and have ordered 2 different whites to try and match. Neither matched very well so we are re-doing everything over the Winter. That said, you may try this place they are on CSR and may hook you up.

Sea Ray (Crain) used Nautolex Vinyl. It is highly unlikely that anything original is going to match at this point. I have the original filler cushion for my 340SDA and it does not look anything like my seats that have been out in the sun all these years.

BTW, I just did a 2005 320 Sundancer and the owner decided to go for a big change rather than staying original. Here is the color set we went with (probably not the best picture for colors):

I can get better pictures if interested and if you have any questions regarding the job please feel free to call me.

Thanks for the pic, I would really like a dark brown, or dark tan, I love that look, but it would just fry me up like a piece of bacon. Wouldn’t have to turn the generator on to cook anything, so pros and cons! How does the color the 320 owner chose do as far as temperature goes, although maybe in NY it’s good to have heat on some days.
I checked the parts manual earlier, and it listed omnova, and sure enough, if you search Omnova’s site for marine applications, there is a whole page dedicated to nautolex.

Kevin,
Regarding the seams, is there anything I should ask for special, especially the starboard side seat? Tends to have people standing on it and the seams are coming apart, noticeable when people are sitting on the boat. I know you do this for a living (or maybe you slept at a holiday inn express last night, not sure), so I really appreciate the help. My other option is just to crack down and ensure no one stands on any seat. Ever.

(I typically tie up at the end of the day on the starboard side, since the generator exhaust is in the port side. This way I can run the generator while we unload to help cool off (Florida). At low tides, easiest way to exit is via the seat. Of course, the exit with the step is on the port side, if we are getting off the boat after sunset, then I use the port side).

Regarding the colors, its a basically a tan with the dark brown insert. Not too bad so far and the owner loves it. We also did a dark brown stitching on the French Seams to make them pop a little. As far as temps - hard to tell here as this spring has been cool and rainy. :(

Lots to discuss here. Grab my number from www.covemarine.com and give me a call during the day. I can discuss the entire construction and installation with you.

Thanks again for your help today. The books I have with samples, one is from Morbern, and the other is Spradling. The Spradling ones some samples say “PermaGuard superior stain resistance”, so we are sticking with those. Is Spradling one of the name brands?
