I noticed a new sound today when shifting into neutral from either forward or reverse. It sounds like a squeal and lasts a few seconds, presumably as the prop comes to a stop. Can't hear it when in gear or in the engine room. Strange thing is that it started happening on one engine right after I left the fuel dock and then the other engine a few minutes later. Could something have contaminated the cutlass bearings?

Thoughts?

Ropes around the shafts?

Do you have grounding brushes on the prop shafts behind the couplers ? Mine make squealing noises once and a while. Maybe they are wearing out or need the tension adjusted.

I noticed this same thing with mine this past weekend, only happens when coming out of gear, and I think it's only on the starboard side. It was happening intermittently last year, maybe 2-3 times during the season. This year it's more frequent. It lasts about 3 seconds, I shot a video of it, you can see it happen at :03 and :20 in to the video.

I have CAT 3116s, ZF IRM 220A-1 Transmissions and dripless shaft seals. Anyone know what could be the cause?

Thanks,
Kevin
