Thinking about trying them out on a 496 mag bravo III set up.
Are there any obvious disadvantages?

Hopefully Jeremy will see this thread - he had Hill Marine 4x4 props on his 340.....IIRC he loved them

I really depends on the hull. I had them on a cruiser and they were a great upgrade. Better holeshot, cruise and strong top end. Slightly better fuel economy.

Tried them on my Slx with the 496 and they fell short of the new Merc 4x3 OEM props in all aspects.

I did have Hill Marine 4x4s on my 340da and they were great. better reverse maneuverability , better hole shot and I was able to plane at a slower speed as well. I was having issues with the props ventilating a lot in turns and the 4x4 eliminated that completely.

More blade surface is like adding four wheel drive to a car. Better hole shot, lower planning speed, better backing. The penalty for additional surface area is drag. You will like lose 1-2 mph on the top end, but nobody runs up there.
