I read that Sea Ray keeps a record of their boats. Has anybody ever done this? I will contact them and see if they can tell me the original engine number and any warranty work done on the boat and see what they can tell me.

I have a couple of times. My boat was built at the Tellico plant in Vonore TN - indicated by the serial number starting SERV. They were very helpful, pulled the build sheet for my boat that had every detail of when it was built, all the specs, even quantity of gelcote used.

I wrote to Sea Ray yesterday and asked for the build sheet information. I included the hull serial number. they wrote back an hour later and gave me the engine # and stern drive numbers. What is bizarre it the engine number I have and the engine that came in the boat are different numbers. The hour meter says 92 hours but the engine looks brand new. The motor mount bolts have been removed before.

92 hours on a replacement engine? Any chance they changed the hour meter on an engine swap?

That is possible. I'm moving this back to my original posting.

I contacted SR about my boat and got a record of warranty work (none) and any non-warranty work reported (none) and they also emailed me the build sheet.

When my 330 was hit by a BUI and totaled I called SR and gave them the HIN and details of the accident so no subsequent buyer could try to sue SR over some issue with the boat.

Yes. I contacted them about my 1972 190 SRV. here's the response. As you can see they did have information on the model of my boat.

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your inquiry, Unfortunately, our records do not provide any details of the hull identification for the 1972 models. The 190 I/O does appear to be a correct model designation and I located a copy of the specification sheet attached below as reference. The 1973 models used a twelve digit hull identification number in addition to the model designator.

I regret that additional information is not available. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Best Regards,

I contacted them about a possible design flaw in the stringer system that could lead to rot in my 1993 Express. The boat was about 4 years old at the time. They sent me a blueprint of the area in question and how to modify it to prevent any issues.

Try asking about a 1977 boat and you will get a neg response as they told me all older pre 1990s boat recoreds from Searay built in Az the plant burned down and since they said had no records which I thought was totally crazy but that is what I was told when I called about a boat I found...thinking about project..
I was actually pissed and the guys response.....like just buy a new boat why look at old boats we dont have recored on or signup to the Searay forms.

I already have a nice Searay 1999 185 that I love but man this company customer service line is a joke

MarineMax printed me a copy of the original price and option list when I bought mine back in 2014. Serial numbers and all were on there.

Last year I inquired about the gelcoat color on my 1986 EC390 by email. I was emailed that they only have detailed build records starting in 1989. I sent him a picture of my boat and he told me without a doubt my gelcoat is Ivory. He actually worked in the factory building the 390s in 1986 and probably worked on my boat. Great customer service.

They forwarded me a PDF order sheet for my boat (a 2002) when I bought it three years ago.
I got a bunch of info from them on my old boat, which was a 1987, but that was many years ago.

So, my interaction with SR was always through Rusty. Always found everything I was asking for and more.

My last SR boat was a few years ago, so no experience in todays world.

If I owned a SR boat today, and I did not have some form of relationship with Rusty --- knock me in the head.

There are so many excellent SR boats represented on this forum. Leverage your resources.

I have contacted them in them several times and always found out what I needed to know. They have sent numerous PDF drawings that helped tremendously....

I have always had very helpful folks and all the info that I needed from mid-ninety's boats to my current one. I'm afraid that it will be going away for the larger boats at some point.
