My lofran on my 1998 290 sundancer is acting up. it only happens sometimes. at the helm i can let the anchor out with no problem. when i go to pull it up i get nothing. i go to the bow and use the foot pedals and just hear a click both up and down from the anchor box. i use the handle to pull it up and then try the foot pedals again and nothing but a short time later work. is it the solenoid or control box? and where can i get either if i need to replace. any help would be great

Its a intermittent Problem it could be a dead spot in the motor the next time it happens rap the motor with a hammer a couple of times see if the motor starts its worth a shot ! lol

I had a problem similar, Would here a click and nothing I took the Solenoid box apart cleaned everything with wire brush, scotch bright and contact cleaner. Then put everything back together and its been fine now for last couple months.

Worth a shot to check, but on my old boat the windlass would act similar if my battery was low. I could put boat in neutral and rev motors and get more amps from alternator.

I have a slightly used control box I can sell you cheap if interested...

Inquiring minds want to learn.

Where is the control box located on a 290 of this vintage?

Just in case I have issues at some point in time.

When u open the anchor door on bow. Mpunted under it. U will see all the wires running to it.

Silly question cause i have not gotten into it yet. Is there a control box and 2 solenoids. ( 1 up and 1 down) like the trim pumps or is the control box the only thing? Its in the bow and i have to stand on my head to look under it. They make these boats for guys that are 3 ft tall and weigh 80 lbs

I believe the foot pedals override the control box, though the direct connections join at the lugs of the control box. When my box failed the foot pedal allowed me to retrieve the anchor. The relays in the box allow the builder to run light wires and a light duty switch at the helm. Not all windlass are set up this way. You are either dealing with low voltage a loose connection (anywhere between the batteries and windlass a solenoid on the motor- don’t remember if we have one—-or failing motor. Hope this helps

Silly question. If i have a problem with it again. How do i drop the anchor? Can i just use the wrench to real it out and same to pull it in?

IMO Sounds like a loose/corroded connection somewhere or your batteries aren’t putting out enough to juice to run it. How old are batteries? Will it work if up the the RPMs on the motors?
