500/520 DB official thread

I was out on anchor today and when I went pull up the anchor I caught a small mushroom anchor with a to of rope some chucked in the water. I got it all untangled and got the anchor up then it went dead. The switch on the helm doesn’t even light up. I’m assuming there is a breaker somewhere but unable to locate it. Anyone have any thoughts?
I haven’t looked in this boat but in my 340da there was a breaker in the anchor locker. I assume there is one in these boats as well.

there are breakers under the helm and in the engine room on the starboard side of the wall right before the bulkhead into the engine room. I am not sure where the windlass breaker is but likely it’s in one of those two spots.
Glad you where able to get the anchor free despite the windlass issue

On my 520, in the lazarette on the port side there is a grey electrical box, and inside there are breakers for the windlass, hydraulic lift, and others.

Has anyone replaced the microwave/convection oven? On convection, ours takes a long time to get hot, and I'm thinking of replacing it.

I have not tried to replace but the microwave on ours seems to take forever to cook popcorn so if you find a replacement that fits please post.

My buddy replaced his they don’t make the model we have any longer I’ll ask him what he put in there also. He had to do a little cosmetic work as it’s not an exact fit.

What do you leave on for A/C when away from the boat? On my 320 I just left it on dehumidify since the sun didn't heat up a Sundancer. On the 500, just de-humidify allows the cabin to heat up pretty well (I do have a cover on front windshields) Leaving 3 A/C units on full time seems like overkill to me. Thoughts? Mike

The plastic bowls on my Groco strainers are leaking on both mains. It doesn’t look like there are any cracks anywhere. Looks like the leak is between the plastic and brass joint. Anyone have this issue? Did you find anything unique once you pulled them apart? I assume they need to be resealed but would be nice to know if there is something different about them before I pull them apart.

Hi Mike,

In FL in the winter, we use the HU feature of the 4 cabin ACs and they do a great job of keeping the temps and humidity down (I have a humidity gauge and it is usually 50% or less). In Chattanooga in the summer, we are under cover and HU keeps it cool and low humidity.

I don't yet have experience in FL in the hotter summers...

Oh - I have bridge "screens" that I attach inside my bridge enclosure with velcro and I do not leave bridge air on at all in both places...

Carter, thanks for the reply. I usually just leave my main cabin on HU. I think I will try the others and see if that makes a difference. We don't get Fl type heat here thank goodness. M

In NY during the spring and fall I leave all my ac units , except the bridge, on HU. During the summer I leave the bridge at 75 the fwd stateroom and master stateroom at 72 and the two salon units at 70. I find if the bridge unit is off or on HU the two salon units struggle to maintain temperature. On my 52 I had the bridge screens Carter has and they really helped the bridge ac. I haven’t done that on the 58 but I may.

I turn all ac’s off for some reason I’m uneasy leaving water run while I’m away. My bridge enclosure does have small vents cut into the tops above the windows.

Not to mention our marina is expensive on electricity they’d charge me $100/day if I ran everything

Spoke to my buddy he bought a cuisinart and still had to cut the top and sides of the cabinets there was no direct replacement to be found he claims. Sorry

Brian, are your bridge and salon connected? How does keeping the bridge A/C on or off affect the salon?

No they are not connected, 3 separate units. I find the salon temperature is maintained better when the bridge is cooled. This really only applies during the day, especially a sunny day. I’m guessing the heat otherwise trapped in the bridge heats the ceiling in the salon. Or, maybe it’s just my imagination

There is simply an o-ring in there. I have part number somewhere I’ll look for it and post. Be careful retightening the bolts mine were fragile and broke a couple.
