Official 380 Thread

Thanks for all the replies on the bow thruster location. I have been rebuilding 2 rental houses and have been up to my eyeballs in that work. One is listed for sale and the other is getting close.

Anyhow, I did get a chance to get down to the boat to check the location and I spotted the Owners Manual. Sure enough in the supplements, there is a bow thruster section. It has a drawing and the thruster is right where you guys mentioned. It does not specify the battery location. You guys are right, the batteries need to be close as possible to the thruster.

So I got a call back from one of the boat yards mentioned here in Edmunds, WA. His estimate was $13k for the bow with a Lewmar 185TT and $12k for the stern. Well, alrighty then...

I spoke with the Side Shift guy the next day. $12.6k for both. Now this brings up the whole discussion (that does not need to be repeated) about the look of the external bow. I do not have an issue with it.

We are going to mount the batteries, charger and the rest in the chain locker. Plus, I do not have use AGM as they are outside the interior. The weight distribution will be better up front but it is higher. The nice thing is the thruster will be 3 or 4 feet forward so it will be more effective.

The stern will not be visible so being external or internal will not matter from a visibility or looks department.

I just have to get the houses sold...hopefully, I can get the thrusters on before the Lake Union Sea Ray rendezvous at Roche Harbor. Anybody else going?

Cheers!

amajamer, I will look up the bulbs I ordered from Amazon. Some of the sellers have a picture with the dimensions listed so you can size them up. The light output is the same. I think I had a conversion for the wattage so they were the same.

No need to replace the fixtures. Do be careful with the springs holding them in place...if it slips it could break a finger!

I will post in a few...if I can find them...

Here are the Amazon past orders...I think they are still current:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01533LMX2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Sure enough, this one was not available:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AO4Y48G/ref=dp_prsubs_2

These are 42 mm and....you have to be mindful of the polarity. They are not marked so if the light does not come on, reverse it in the fixture.

These might be the correct festooned type.

Here are more:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0152NS25Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are the most recent that I did last Fall as I forgot some. They went in the mid berth floor and by the steps going down the hatch:

The most amazing thing is the lack of heat. Almost as amazing as how much heat is put out by the halogens...kind scary...

So many of the mods I have done are not from marine suppliers. There are lots of alternatives. When I borked the anchor bracket trying to get out of a tie up with a bunch of current and wind, I found the exact SS bolts at Home Depot. Countersunk and the exact length. The ones that were broken were not the right length. Do boat yards just put in stuff that is close and squirt 5200 pucky on everything. Geez...

Anyhow that is when I found out I could fold myself up and fit in the chain locker!

I'm 6 ft and 230 lbs...ha!

I just re read my long introductory post on the previous page. We are home for a few days between bouts of remodeling rentals...we like to dream and figure out how to make our boat more to our liking. It is great but always there is room for improvements.

It was funny, some folks form the our local yacht club and who are also neighbors stopped by our boat the other day for Gin & Tonics. I think they looked down on our style of boat. They were shocked at the roominess and were shocked we had A/C. Plus the cockpit was quite roomy and comfortable.

Anyhow we have a few more things we have dreamed up to do to the boat. The first is changing out the icemaker for a beverage fridge with a glass door. It will not be a "marine unit". My only concern is if I drill holes in the outer metal skin to secure it, the holes will rust. Trying to figure out a way to secure it in the opening, that will have to be modified a little, without having raw metal that will rust.

Another little thing that my wife came up with is using the ice bucket as a planter for herbs. She cooks up a storm and, as my weight gain shows, is really good. So fresh herbs planted in the ice bucket is going to be fun. Maybe I can remove the ice bucket and install a larger basin that will use the same drain.

I also looked at the specs on the TracVision antenna. It says DirecTV. Well, we use DirecTV at the house. So I called and there is no charge for extra units or for the "installation". I will get that figured out and report back.

Ciao

Having an issue with the companionway lock. Works fine with the key, but on the inside, the switch will not move. It’s in the unlocked position, can’t get it to move at all.

Has anyone had this issue, or replaced the whole assembly?

Thanks in advance
Chris

When unlocking the door, turn the key clockwise until it stops, the turn counter clockwise one click (not all the way back), then try the interior lock function. Seems to be a two position safety thing, at least on my boat.

Thank you! That was it! I had no idea

Hello All! We have some Infinity (snap in carpet) that we are trying to recoup some of our money on. We installed it for customer but they didn't like it because it was too gray/ purplish. Looking to get around $900 (depending on where is it being shipped).

Electrical Issue.

Seems all of the outlets on the starboard side are not working. Breakers have been set, reset numerous times, I opened up the engine area to check for any tripped breakers and all is OK there.

I read a few posts from other size DA boats and they talked about a GFI outlet being the source. Our GFI in the head area is working fine which also is on the same circuit as the outlet over the galley area. From the mid-cabin outlet in the mirrored-cabinet all the way forward to the TV in the fore stateroom, no AC. Also, when we would turn the "starboard systems" breaker on, we would hear the central vac come on briefly. We no longer hear that.

Any ideas or suggestions? We are down in St. Pete for the weekend getting by with an extension cord, but that is not a safe thing on a boat. Welcome any and all input.

Is the power meter showing voltage? If not, check the power inlet where the cord is connected. Mine needed to be changed, as they were burned up. If that's good, maybe you have a bad main breaker. Also, make sure your breaker on the dock is good. Mine went bad a couple of weeks ago, and needed to have the marina replace it.

Check in the cabinet, above the couch, just fwd of the main electrical cabinet. I have a gfci in there. Just aft of the cabinet with the radio/disc changer

I’m trying to figure out what vent actuator motor to order for my 2003 380.

The part # says 4”8P, is 4” the stroke?
Seems i need to know the stroke length and strength in pounds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine is ok but I'm going to save this info! Thanks.

Fannk Webster told me it's a good idea to give these things a quick squirt of spray lube at least once a season. They take a lot of invisible spray.

Thanks for the tip. I did look along the couch and saw an outlet and it was not a GFI, but I forgot that you told me it was in the cabinet. I am hoping I can hit the magic (GFI reset) button and all is well. I will be over the boat this week and take a look.

Is it possible it is the other hidden GFCI in the cabinet in the galley? It seems mostly systems are Port and Starboard but maybe the circuit crosses over.

Let us know!

In my 380 there’s a GFCI in the galley storage area under the microwave and one in the same cabinet above the couch next to the breaker panel.
