How suceptible to rust are Bravo 3

2007 Sea Ray 290 radar & GPS, triple axle trailer. 2006 Sea Ray 280 radar & GPS & triple axle tlr
Engines
5.0 MPI closed cooling Sea Core engines & Bravo III outdrives
4.3 MPI with alpha outdrives
i'm looking at a 2008 SR 280 with twin 4.3 220 hp engines with less than 100 hours. should i be concerned about rust/oxidation on these drives
 
Forgot to add one owner boat always in fresh water
 
Be sure to have the correct anodes for fresh water and you should be fine
 
not rust or oxidation but corrosion. Not only do you need to have the proper sacrificial anodes but check to see that your mercathode system if equipped is operational as well
 
Yep, The Bravo IIIs are Aluminum so they are not going to rust. It is corrosion that you are fighting especially with all the stainless down there. They are solid out drives but make sure that your bonding is intact and that you have proper metals in your anodes. The drives also need to be properly painted and if using an anti fouling paint you should use something like the Trilux paints. One more note, the bottom paint should not come in contact with the transom assembly.

Don't thinks so. Bud. Looked at a shit ton of boats when I was looking for a 280. Some of those southern fresh water outdrives were a complete mess. Bubba said they worked fine but agent said they need replacement.

I wonder if it was more to do with the wrong anodes and the possibility of the owners dropping their guard due to being in the fresh water?
 
Only 100 hours. Has the boat been wet all these years or is it on a trailer?

I see you already have a 2005 280...... are the differences that great to move laterally to a 2008 280?

BIII's are about 7K each where your current 280 you can replace both Alpha's for that much.
