Well I fell victim to bad exhaust and after pulling heads etc, I decided to buy a remanufacted motor from Michigan Motorz. While pulling motor I saw so much corrosion on the transom from the Leakey steering pin I decided to purchase a brand new transom Assy.
So I have this new shiny transom assembly but have to put anti-fouling paint on it. I have been using Pettit Hydrocoat Eco with great results. Pettit suggests I sand with 80 grit, use a two part primer and then paint. I hate the idea of sanding brand new factory paint.
I talked to a local marina and they say just scotch bright it and paint it. They also claim that the Pettit alumna spray would be easier on the areas inside the the Assy that are hard to reach with a brush. His thinking was why ruin a good base paint job with 60 or 80 grit. He stated that I could then apply the Hydocoat to the outer parts.
Any thoughts?
