2005 280 Sundancer , 6 gallon water heater, no hot water.

I hope this may help out anyone with the same problem. My issue is that the hot water side will only trickle water out, with the flow actually stopping in a few seconds. Cold water pressure was fine on all faucets.

Input (cold) and output (hot) water lines were pulled off from the water heater and both moved water freely. What appeared to be brass nipples on the water heater, connecting to 15mm PEX elbows, were not. The input (cold water side) actually has a one way check valve in it.

Using a 1" deep well socket to get it off, I removed it and soaked in white vinegar for a few hours. Wiped it down well and used a small screwdriver to move the check valve a few times and ensure it was free. The vinegar removed a lot of calcium.

Re-assembled everything and had plenty of hot water pressure after working all the air out of the lines!. Miraculous weekend as this was my first boat repair that really didn't cost any $$$'s!

I am having issues with my water pressure and engine coughing at low speed on my 2005 260 Sundancer. Just had a rebuilt mercruiser 350 Mag installed over the winter, and immediately upon putting it back in the water the engine coughs or slips at 5mph. Idles fine, full speed fine, but slowly increasing speed it does the same thing between 5-10 mph.

Also, there is no fresh water pressure in any of my faucets? Is there a valve I need to turn back on or something from being winterized?

Thanks Guys,
Ken

Just a guess on the top one. Sounds like the timing could be out.

Did you turn on your fresh water pump?

Yes, the pump is on. I was also looking in the engine compartment where the fresh water tank is for a valve or something, and didn't see one.

So it was a brass check valve on the cold water supply side of the water heater?
You gotta love a cheap and easy fix like that!

I am having the same issue with one of my motor home faucets. Same basic set up.
I am going to disconnect the inlet lines, open the valves, and blow some air backwards through it and see if I can find a chunk of illicit material.

Do you know if there is a master valve or something to open or turn on? There is no water to either of the faucets or the toilet.

No master valve. Is the water line hooked up from the tank to the pump and the output side of the pump? Can you physically hear the pump running? Also, check the filter on the pump. Do you get water from the transom washdown spigot? Try disconnecting the output side of the pump - does water come out? Does your tank have water in it?

I will try all that. I can hear the pump running and I just filled up the tank. I have only owned this boat one year, so unfortunately I don't know a ton about it. I had it stored and winterized during the winter, and while it was in there they replaced ball valve on the vacu-flush toilet. Im not sure if they turned something off when they winterized it and I am supposed to turn back on. The place that fixed it and winterized it is telling me they don't know why water is not flowing. It was working fine last summer.

I would say you have a valve off, or there is a hose still off from when it was winterized
mine has 3 valves. one on the hot, one on the cold and a bypass in between incase the tank leaks I can still have water

Sometimes water lines are disconnected (but only back in the bilge) for winterizing and forgotten to be put back on. A clog at the pump or at the faucets (aerator) would do it, as well. I asked about the spigot because it doesn't have an aerator.

I should add... this all based on the boat being 'stock'. If things have been changed... then answers can change. If you can't get it figure out, post a few pics of the tank/pump/lines/hot water heater.

I am going to be out on the boat tomorrow, I will check all the connections back in the bilge, and the aerators that you guys suggested. Thanks for the suggestions.

I had similar issue last year. It was a bad case of algae in the fresh water tank and lines. Clean out your pump strainer,, if its got black goo in there, then its algae.

Solution: Pour a whole gallon of Clorox in the tank and let it sit, then flush the lines. Use the no-fragrance stuff or you'll suffocate.

From now on,, I'm putting a couple cups in each time I fill it up with water.

I hope you know Clorox will destroy the seals and some fittings in a VacuFlush head. So don't use that water to flush the toilet. Also, it does not take 2 cups (16 oz.) of bleach to keep a tank fresh. Tap water from a municipality should last a week. Just dump it after 7 days and start over and you are good.
