Wondering if anyone has experience and advice on programming my SMX II control pads for AC units? I'd like to reset the fan to intermittent operation (only when the compressor runs) but the process in real life doesn't seem to work the way the instructions in the SMX manual describe. For example, to enter the programming mode it says to press OFF then SET and a decimal will appear after the digits in the display. Nothing happens. But if I press OFF, SET, and FAN together, a decimal appears between the digits and I seem to be able to scroll through some options. But again, not like described in the instructions. Seems like lots of great programming options if I could only decipher the instructions or fix what I'm doing wrong.

According to the manual I have it's going to be off, set to get into programing mode. Then down, fan, up keys simult to get to fan mode.

There's also a note that you should relocate the temp sensor if you go to intermittent mode. Apparently it's located (stock) in the air intake area. You'll probably struggle to keep a consistent temp in the cabin if the fans not always running...

There are a couple different keypads that have somewhat different instructions. As stated, the unit must be in the off position. Google Cruisair SMXII keypad and you will find the manual. It is super easy, but you should move the temp sensor as well. I have both of mine operating in the intermittent mode.

Thanks. These are things I'm trying. As I said it doesn't respond in the way the manual says.

There are other settings I'd like to adjust, but first issue is the fan running constantly in the forward berth at night.

Assuming you have 2 units can you swap the forward with the salon?

Three units, but saloon and berth are different sizes (16k & 7k). That's an idea but probably lots of work/hassle. Admiral doesn't mind the fan, just me. So not truly a priority just frustrating the instructions don't help.

If you have the older taylormade units they will not function the same as the newer Dometic units. The instructions are the same but the older units just don't have the capability.

Your boat is the same year as mine so it's a good bet we have the same unit.
I’ve got a digital copy of the manual on my iPad. If you send me your email I can forward the file to you.
The other thing I can tell you is that I had some erratic issues with one of mine two years ago and wound up buying a new one to solve them. The circuit boards on these things are pretty flimsy and anything can happen to them after years of pushing on them.
Along with the new one I bought a remote for them and it’s great. Now I just use the remote to change settings or turn them off or on. Use it for the second unit too. Nice not having to get out of bed to make adjustments.
Can’t remember the last time I actually touched one of those controllers.

Thanks Josh. That's one of the conclusions I've been coming to. That disconnect between older units and a newer manual makes sense.

Where are you in Annapolis? If you have the same unit, perhaps I can help....If memory serves, all you had to do to get the fan to stop running all the time was press the fan button to switch from manual to auto mode.
We dock at ALM in Back Creek. Manual and automatic only changes the fan speed, not on-off. Factory default is continuous running when the unit is on.

For others to learn: My manual was wrong - So I changed my pdf to the correct solution...

So, to do what you want:
1. Press Off, then press Set (You will not see a dot!)
2. Press the Down, Fan and Up keys simultaneously (You will see a "C")
3. Press Up (You will see an "I" - That's what you want)
4. Press OFF (Done)

You're a genius!! Worked perfectly! Was able to change the fan setting and others. I look forward to using the Humidity Control feature. Let me know when I can buy you a beer at Davis'
