Any suggestions for boat flooring that is dog friendly. We had Aqua Flooring and our golden mini doodle did some damage with his nails. Thanks in advanced!

We have our entire cockpit floor covered with SeaDek. That's one heck of a great product, but I can already see the signs of damage from our dog. Our boy is a 10yo yellow lab who basically does nothing all day, and he still managed to snag a few spots. I imagine any sort of active dog would tear it to shreds.

Ugh, that's what I thought:(. There has to be something.

A few dock neighbors have PlasDeck. It holds up really well to heavy pet activity, but it gets SUPER hot in the sun. And you have to be really careful not to get any wax/compound on it or else it stains really badly and needs to be sanded out.

the newer woven vinyl carpets like Infinity claim to be tough enough to withstand pet claws....I have that type carpet from Corinthian in my boat for 3 years and there absolutely no signs of wear.....but I don't have pets....might be worth checking into....

I have a labradoodle that trashes my hardwood floors in my home and he hasn't made a single mark on my flexiteak. I love the look of it as well and it cleans up easily.

I know this post is a couple years old but I got to ask, what is the name of the color of this carpet from Corinthian? Thanks.

it is called 'Black Pearl'.....

thanks....we like it a lot...it does get hot when exposed to direct sunlight.....that is why we did not put it (or anything else) on the swim platform....but we have not had any issues with it being hot since we have a double bimini top that blocks most of the sun from heating up the flooring in the cockpit...and we usually wear shoes or flip flops anyway...i would definitely buy it again....

We are in the middle of a floor project, and have a dog that will be with us all the time. If its going to be below deck, carpet is easy. We took all ours out, sanded the gel coat/fiberglass smooth, new gel coat and waiting now for the aqua marine deck to arrive. Same as sea deck, about half the price. Above deck, cockpit area, we have marine carpet sections, used as throw rugs, stays flat and inplace. The rubber backing keeps it from slipping around on the gel coat. Contrary to what most would think, when it gets wet it resists moving around even more. In my opinion, seadek flooring in the cockpit area of these cabin cruisers is nice, but pricey. When you need to pull up floor boards, just roll or fold up the marine carpet till done. Another piece of doggy advice, if you dont have dremel tool already to trim your dogs nails, i recommend one. If you stay after their nails, several times a week, not taking too much, you can cause the wick to move closer to thier paw, thus making the nail shorter. If they are walking on their nails, it can be uncomfortable or even painful. Cheers

Howdy, Delta! Hey, at the risk of asking for the most basic of guidance, could you post a link to a specific example of just the type (or perhaps better yet, your source) for the exact marine carpeting you are referring to?

It REALLY sounds like the solution my wife and I have been waiting for!

But, I don’t want to waste any time, etc. springing for what Lowes, Home Depot or a vendor on eBay / Amazon considers “marine carpet” only to find it is not the same product you are finding the success so elusive to us, thus far.

(Thank YOU!)

Sigh. In our case, it wasn’t even the money - we couldn’t get the young, Gen-X’er SeaDek rep. for our locale to followup from one e-mail / phone conversation to another! His business is supposedly only 40-minutes West of us (all rural) and we went from frustration to exasperation to pure vitriol after eventually hearing similar stories from other, local boat owners. (That was late 2017 into 2018; and, as much as we wanted it then, I doubt we’d accept SeaDek flooring for free after that debacle.)

We are happy for any who have it and are satisfied with it, though!

ANy vinyl flooring will get hot in the sun and burn the dogs feet. In direct sun the best is still carpet. Sea deck is good but dog will wear through the closed form. Any material using a plastic as a base material will also be hot. I have two dogs that travel with us and we have bought and removed a lot of products. Carpet is really the best in open areas.

Try Aqua Marine Deck, (770)6144417 they will send out template material, you send it back, they lay it out, you aporove it, they ship it to you, you lay it down. These guys are out of Georgia, cost is about half. Seadek is way over priced, you could easily do marble flooring for same cost. Pic will show the transparent milar template material, they supply the sharpie pen to mark where you want the flooring. Ive just finished coating with gel coat.

Foam deck flooring is used widely in the wake and surf boats. It shouldn't be exposed to 24/7 elements, especially the sun. Ours is below deck. Sounds like the regular marine carpet that most fokks glue down, will be ideal for them. Our boats previous owners cut the peices in the cockpit area and are not glued down. They stay flat and easy to pull up when needed. In this pic you can only see the one piece, 2 others go all across the back near the transom
