I am replacing my Clarion XMD3 with the M505. The issue is that the slot for the XMD3 is bigger than the M505. What can I but to have this fit in there? It needs to get smaller an the M505 has no out screws. Thanks.

You could cut out some starboard and make a custom backing plate. Or, do what I did with replacing my remote & epoxy part of the slot, then re-gelcoat the area so it looks factory.

Edit - I guess I should have asked - I noticed you have a DA. Is the head unit in the cabin? I just did a modification as well in the cabin to fit my new Fusion.

I purchased a 4" x 1/2" finished oak board to create a larger backplate to go in front of the larger hole. I was looking for Mahogany but couldn't find one. I cut the length of the board obviously longer than the width of the existing cut out in the cabin. I then used the template of the Fusion and centered it on the oak.

Once traced out, I Dremeled the hole where the head unit fits. I also pre- drilled the holes for the head unit to mount as well as pre drilled the holes to mount the new backplate to the cabinet.

I lightly sanded everything and verified that all the holes lined up & the mounting screws were tight and did not split the wood. Then I stained it an antique grey. After the stain I added a couple coats poly.

For the backplate mounting screws, I purchased black painted screws for a cleaner look.

I don't have a picture, but it turned out really nice IMO. It's squared and doesn't look slapped together with some starboard. If your DA has cherrywood accents, maybe get a small can of cherrywood stain.

Have you removed the old radio yet. I thought, even though the face is larger on the old unit, the cutout is the same as the new

Yes....and I originally thought so too. "DIN" is the size IIRC. This issue for me was not the height of the cutout, but the width. I removed the Clarion actually about 6 years ago and replaced it with a Sony. The Sony unit in 2012 was larger and fit in the location hiding the gap. (see pic) The new Fusion unit I purchased is smaller or not as wide as the cutout so I had to do something otherwise I'd have a 1/4" gap on one side.
