1999 Sundancer 270SE with single 5.7 Bravo II. Hopefully just a bad seal around the cap on the heat exchanger? What else can I expect?

Thanks

Was the engine overheating? Could be a blocked water discharge passage as well as a bad gasket.

No overheating she ran fine...just bilge alarm and I pumped her out on way back. I recently put a 1-1/4" through hull fitting in so there's a lot more water pressure running through now. I'll pop that cap off today and see what I'm up against. Thanks for response.

If that is salt water, a Big deal. Fix it before everything turns to rust in the bilge.

Well thanks Captain Obvious I realize it needs to be fixed just looking for suggestions.

You asked in your title if this was a big deal. sbw1 was trying to provide some perspective to someone that's new to the forum and who's familiarity with boating and mechanicals is unknown. He's one of the most helpful and knowledgeable members here. Not every appreciates the impact salt water spray has on an engine space.

This community will go out of it's way to offer guidance and assistance, but comments like that are not going to get you help.

Echoing Brad's comments. Jamie, you're new here and maybe spent some time on the Hull Truth site where that style of exchange is very common. CSR is one of the best sites for getting responses from people looking to help other Sea Ray owners. Some of them may be off point, and some may be stating the obvious, but none are ill-intentioned. sbw1 is one of the long-timers on here and is a very experienced boater. This is not about thin-skin. Its a different kind of forum. You will enjoy your time here.

My apologies to sbw1 and the group. I need all the help I can get and I took the response the wrong way. I think the seal needs replacing!

Thanks to all

View attachment 70811 My apologies to sbw1 and the group. I need all the help I can get and I took the response the wrong way. I think the seal needs replacing! This 99 wasn't well cared for but I'm to the point now where I've replaced almost everything. Hopefully this is it for a while. The intake on the transom assy was deteriorated and closed off and she got really hot. I think that's probably when this seal melted. Thanks again and regrets on my previous comment.

Thanks to all[/QUO

You're good my friend. Welcome to CSR. We all try to help each other with this expensive addiction. My name is Frank, and I am a boater....
Thanks Frank...I love my boat but she has been a project! I have a pretty good mechanic now, but it's nice to be able to share what's going on and have others to talk to who have lived through it as well.
