I'm new to twin engines. Can anyone tell me how to syn the engines or does that happen via smartcraft gauge.

On my 280DA you synced them by watching your tachs, using your ears, and moving the throttles as needed with your hand.

When getting up on plane I don't worry about it, I just advance throttles and once I'm up on top, back them off to where I want to cruise. I prefer to use the synch guage that is displayed in the smartcraft speedo. I'll then sync the engines with very fine movements of either throttle and leave them be (usually only takes a little adjustment, they're pretty close). Only reason I'll make any adjustments from there is if I need to drop or retract tabs to make the ride more enjoyable due to waves.

I will say that on a friends 2010 310 with DTS, the ability to have the engines auto-sync and use one throttle is absolutely fantastic. I thought it was a silly thing until I used it and realized that it was just one less thing to have to worry about.
