Hello.

During the annual autumn cleaning, I discovered two green cables under the engine, of a little bigger area. One is loose and the other I have not found where it is attached. Guess it's earth cable. but is anyone who knows exactly what it is? The loose one have a cable lug in the end. Anyone how now where it will be attached?

Have a nice day.

Green is usually the bonding wires for the vessel, connecting metal parts together.

What metal is near? Is it near the outdrive or trim tabs?

I can't see the picture for some reason, but if you found a green wire underneath the engine with a round lug it is most likely from the garboard drain plug. Another common place would be a seacock.

Hi guys.

Thank you for your answers. However, I'm do not understand what a bonding cable is? I'm from Sweden and we may use some other expression. Question is still, if it's a earthing connection? and if I can put it anywhere in the steel, or must it be mounted where it will "be"?

It is a bonding cable that bonds the metal parts of the boat - i.e. strainers, sea cocks, transom plug, etc - any metal parts that make contact with seawater to assist in preventing corrosion. All of your sea cocks should have one as well as strainers. look for something that it will reach that does not have one and you will be able to figure out wear it goes. If it was under the motor, check to see if it belongs to the drain plug on the stern as mentioned earlier. It needs to go back where it originated from. Clean the end real good before re attaching.

Is an "earthing connection" a ground (a ground is the negative side of a DC voltage system)? I believe it is.

This is a layman's explanation of bonding, it is connecting the parts that are in water that do not carry power. It evens out the electric charge to protect those parts and let the sacrificial anodes do their job. Your out-drive is connected to a green wire, as is your metal thru-hulls, strainers, etc. The green wire also helps protect in a lightning strike.

Thanks!

Then it just remains to squeeze myself togheter and start looking under the engine. It hung loosely under the engine. Should it be one on the drain plug under the engine?

The other one i attached in the front of the engine under it.

Is someone here knowing were it will be attach and into what?
can't find where to attach it.

See post #4 (and others). Yes, earthing = bonding.

Hi. I agree. But can I put it anywhere on the engine only if it is connected to earth through the metal? Thought more if there is a specifik place to attach it on. And where is it? Not easy to find when it got lost :)

Hi again guys.
No matter how much I am looking and searching on internet i cant´t find a drawing
where thoose two cable should be placed? Can some one help me out?

Have a nice day / Micke

Glad I read this. Same issue on mine. I didnt know it was for bonding for the drain plug and will clean and reattach mine. This cable keeps a bit of water and misc debris from getting to the center bilge throygh the aft pass through (changed the waterheater and had a few gallons on the side).

If memory serves, the green bonding wire from the garboard drain plug attaches to the inner transom plate assembly. Look for a small, stainless, pan-head screw (assuming it's still there, of course). But, really, it can be mounted to any metal as all of the metal should be bonded together, both inside and out.

Thanks for good answer :) I will try to figure it out.

Now i have taken the boot home for some repair work before heading into the water.

I Have check this bonding cabel closer now. Both is attach to the engine block, and one is attach to the drain pump. Can someone tell me where to attach the last one, I guess it will attach into the gods of the sterndrive together with the bonding wire? is that correct?

Have a nice one / Mike
