Not sure if this is a problem or just annoying. Air conditioner puts out cold air but the Compressor is very noisy and annoying anyone else have this problem?

Thank you

Todd

Yes mine has been noisy for many years but everything checks out the amperage draw is fine and the refrigerant charge is right on two things i would check first

Mine makes a noise when the compressor kicks on, like Bwaaaaaannnngggggg, which is pretty loud. Not too bad running after, until compressor kicks on again.

16 years old and quite as a church mouse... I am blessed...

Go to a Home Depot get the washable kind and you can reuse it !

Of my two units one is loud and one is quiet. Fortunately for me the unit in the master berth area is the quiet one...

Interesting.... My boat is the same....The forward unit is quieter. Yet, they are the same model... Also the relay click when the unit on is louder as well....Perhaps some insulation around the unit compartment would help.

Noise when running is one of the first symptoms of a failing compressor. Another one is a loud bang (louder than a relay closing) when the compressor cycles on.

The good news is that the fix is a new Dometic air conditioner. Dometic has slowly acquired the makers of marine air units and has redesigned then using a turbine type compressor that is whisper quiet and smooth. The domestic units fit in the same footprint as Marine Air system and are almost plug and play. The bad news is that changing one out is easy in some boats but hard in others..........oh, the other bad news is the $3500 check you will write to get the problem solved.

Same for me. Forward stateroom unit is much quieter than the one in the salon.

You have a 290 right? Mine is also loud but it’s in a terrible place in the boat for keeping noise down. The grill doesn’t cut back compressor noise and it’s basically open to the cabin

On my 290 the companionway step flipped up for the trash can - I used to flip that step up at night, cut out about 80% of the AC noise, but still let air flow to the return.

We do the same! It helps quite a bit. I get on other boats with the ac under the beds and I’m jealous though, they’re so quiet.

The one under the Master Stateroom bed is 12 years old and barely noticeable even when in the bed. It makes no more noise than the refrigerator compressor coming on.

The newer 3-year old Cruisair Turbo model in the salon is kin to 747 taking off....

Bennett is right - everyone I know including myself who have them think the Cruisair Turbo's are really rock crushers in disguise..... The manufacturer is in denial.... They say in their literature it has low noise levels but will sell an optional sound shield that cuts noise by 50% - dichotomy.
My Cruisair Turbo is located in a different area on the boat; the noise comes through the ductwork.
