The big old 80's 340 owners thread

Hi
Over the pond mate uk sorry !

Hello DJBArnes, where do you keep your boat? I see Athens is quite far from the Gulf my son lives in Fairhope
My boat is on the Tennessee River in North Alabama at Lucy’s Branch Marina. Fairhope is a beautiful city, I’ve visited there many times.

Hello my fellow 340 Owners. Has any replaced the Norcold (nevercold) refrigerator? If so, what brand / model did you buy? How did it fit? Also, has anyone attempted to add to or repack their prop shaft stuffing boxes on the DA? Looks near impossible to me unless you have 6' long arms. Has anyone changed over to drip-less type seals? Thanks in advance for the help! Steve

Hi
I have done my ec 340 easy job !
You need buy a roll off correct size packing its like square brade greasy stuff take out one old ring
Cut new one to match with diagonal cut !
Remove old packing fit one in then put next one with cut joint 180 degrees opposite some have 3 rings some have two tighten up nut until
It just drips slightly for lubrication to shaft

Carl, he has a Sundancer, we have aft facing engines with v-drives. Fortunately, I bought ours with dripless already installed.

Steve, for me, I would probably have to pull the inboard exhaust manifolds off both engines to having chance of getting down there , I'm 6'1" , 250+.
A smaller, more agile body, may be able to do it easier. If you have the right gear, just pull one engine, and have a go at all the " hard to get " stuff all at once, I.E.- Oil pan.

I have only been on CSR for 2 days now. And wow! The help and the info has been great! Thank you all who have reached out and given me info.

I figured I would grab the bull by the horns (after going 30 pages deep and various searches) to start THE BIG OLD 80'S 340 owners thread. Of course not to hate on the newer 340's club, (which I hope one day to be a part of) but it would be great to put together a thread of all owners of the big old 80's 340's so we can pick each other brains and share our experiences and knowledge.

I look forward to seeing how many CSR members are still behind the wheel of the 80's. So kick back with your favorite 80's hair metal band cassette and comb your mullet, were bringing back the 80's with pride!

Hi
Can anybody help me with a replacement bin or ice bucket on my 340ec has lid inside portside corner ?

Monty, Thanks for your suggestion. I have been thinking about changing out manifolds and risers, so maybe I'll combine the jobs. I would like to upgrade the seals to dripless, but it could get expensive real quick if both shafts need to be replaced. Something to think about though. Thanks! Steve

Steve,
I must “amend” my last reply. I am currently in the process of swapping out my risers for Mercruiser stainless ones and When I pulled out the exhaust crossover pipe to “pretty her up” a bit, VOILA ‼️ Reasonable access to the s-box/shaft seal !
Looks like simply removing the shift linkage should even allow a big knucklehead like me in there!
Please excuse the dirty e/room, I bought it that way, and am planning on hoisting motors next winter for a looksee, and more pretty stuff

Friend of mine has an 86 Express. Can anyone help with his question?
"Does anyone know where I could find a wiring schematic/diagram for a Searay 340 Express 1986 with 2 x 340 Mercruiser’s"

I believe he is having issues with the windless and the water system specifically.

Thanks for anyone who may have some info.

Hi Nick,

I have the diagrams for an 89. Ask your friend if he is interested and pm me with an email address if so.
BTW, Where are you at in Cleveland?

I love the Sea Ray line however none were available here at the time I was looking for a boat this size.
I hope y’all don’t mind me being here with a competitor boat the same approximate size.
I’ll try and keep my comments more toward general things common to boats this size.

I on the upper Mississippi in St.Paul.

There is one 34DA but he is not in the water yet.

We still are in flood. The longest flood duration in history here. It’s a mess at some marinas. Our left the drain plugs out so rather tha have boats floating all over they just took on water. Mine got about a foot in it but no real damage other that a couple dead batteries.

I’m back in the water. Fixing a few issues from last year. There is too mush debris floating around for now to venture out. It will be another two weeks at least.

Does anyone have info on a fabric paint or dye for the inside cabin walls. My 1987 340 EC has years of stains and discoloring that I would like to go over and make look better. Or any other ideas on how to make it look better?

Not sure if this would work for you, We have a Bissell green machine, small carpet cleaner. Seems that it could be used with Bissell soaps to clean stains and such. other alternative is to replace material. Upholstery shop near you could do it. $$$.
