Can I Really Duplicate This Dinghy Tie Down For 1/4 Price?

I would mike but while ordering the davits I said WTF just because I'm lazy

It looks like a snowmobile or ATV tie down set.

I was going to say that the ratchets would rust, but they say they are stainless steel. Even if you replaced them every year you are still way ahead.

Mike, my man, have you looked at Harbor Freight. Here's a set of four ratcheting tie downs for $12, and they already have the hooks at the ends. They're 15' long so you could shorten them if you want.

I've used these for years and have never had one rust or fail on me. They even have the CSR Cheapskate Seal of Approval.

I know that, but I want the stainless. They come with stainless hooks like your photo, I was suggesting I might put SS carabiners on to further duplicate the Hurley package.

Snap-on tools - Harbor Freight tools, the choice is yours Mike. As posted above, you can replace them every year, but, do you want to go through all that? I guess a warranty check would be in order on both and of course a hands on would be the best, but as we all know that is not always possible.

Only use stainless carabiners when securing your dingy to the platform. If using a hook and the ratchet slips slightly, the hook will fall out of its ring. Now you'll have an issue in heavy seas! Everything else you are good to go. Use big back washers under the platform to secure the rings on each corner.

That makes sense as to why they use the carabiners. I can get ss carabiners and just slip them on the strap after I cut the hooks off.

I use these and replace them every year... They either rust beyond repair or I missplace them... I would like to have stainless, but even stainless will rust where I live... And these are cheap enough to replace every year...

No need to cut or adapt. The same company offers them in SS carabiners...
