410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

I have a 370EC with a Reverso. It's mounted on the vertical stringer by the starboard motor. I don't have a pic of it at the moment, but could get one next time I'm at the boat. I just did my annual oil change last night, wish I'd seen this post before then, I could have gotten all kinds of pics!

Thanks for the info. Just to pin it down more, is it mounted on the stringer that the engine is mounted to? Is it on the inboard side of the stringer in the "walkway" between the two motors? Any pictures you could provide would be a great help.

That's correct, it's on the stringer that the engine is mounted on, in the walkway between the 2 engines. I'll definitely grab a pic next time I'm there, I checked my gallery and didn't see any of the Reverso.

Do you find that it is "in the way" at all in that location? The space I have between my engines (gassers) is smaller then you have, i presume, and I am concerned about it blocking access to something or getting in the way of repairs, maintenance, access, etc.

Thanks.

Not at all. I have my house battery bank on the other side of the walkway, right next to the port engine. Those take up the most room, the Reverso pump has a pretty small profile, only 4-5" I would guess. Even with all that in there, I still have plenty of space to work.

Similarly, mine is mounted on a main stringer, but on the port side. It's back about 2' from the transmission. Mounted in the walkway. So it's not actually between the engines. I don't find it to be in the way, and it's easy access when it needs to be used.

Hi Jeff,
It was 39 with freezing rain here today. Do you miss it yet?
I typically fill my tanks as soon as I see that I’m down to less than half a tank so they are usually pretty full. I keep my water tank full to because I use that instead of the dockside water connection.
I was leaning towards a new seat base but went the cheapskate way instead. On long trips I use the freebie throwable device as a cushion to raise my butt a couple of inches in the helm seat. Crude, but it works. The other benefit is that the Helm seat can still be at the exact height as the companion seat. When enjoying a cocktail at the dock I lift the bolster, turn the helm seat 90 degrees to port, lower the bolster and I have the most comfortable lounger on the boat. It’s nice and shaded too. I’ve enjoyed several catnaps in it.
The running angle is typical of the diesel 410’s. I’m looking for an improvement. I suspect that SeaRay went with the best overall tab for gas and much heavier in the a$$ diesel boats.
The prop guy recommended Acme Props. I spoke to Acme and they recommended their 3 blade props. I can’t wrap my head around that but they say they work well on the Sundancers. I didn’t want to take a $5000.00 gamble on 3 blade props though without talking to someone with a diesel 410 who tried them and getting real world feedback. I’m probably going to call Acme back next winter to see if they can connect me to someone with a 410 who is running their props.
I can say that the last time I listened to this prop guy with my old boat I picked up an incredible hole shot, faster cruising speed at the same RPM’s and more fuel efficiency. But that was a twin I/O boat and the props weren’t as big as an investment.
Concerning the helm seat. Here is what I did for under $10.00. I purchase 1/2" cutting board from my local hardware store. And cut three strips for both sides. Lifted seat 1.5". The best part is when the helm swivels to the bench seat the helm is slightly higher for a comfortable stretch of the legs while kicking back! Oh and I can see very well over the bow but just below the window frame view.

Perfect. Thanks.
I love how much room you have between those engines. I can get between mine, sideways only :)
Do I see your batteries in there as well? Did you relocate them there?

Guys, can anyone confirm the ice maker model that came with a 98' 400DA? I broke my ice bin and want to get the right one. I am thinking Uline SP18 and part 31429. The unit makes ice like a champ but it seems to freeze into a block at the bottom. If I change the door gasket would that fix that issue? Anyone know the gasket number? Or is there an adjustment for the freezer settings? Thanks, Dan

Unless it's falling apart, I'm not sure I'd go after the gasket. If it gets cold enough to make ice in the tray, wouldn't it be hard to explain all that ice in the bin melting later?

A faulty t-stat or relay on the other hand, could explain that behavior: when the compressor runs, the box gets cold enough for ice, but after the compressor cycles off, it isn't kicking-on soon enough to maintain temp.

That's what my Raritan was doing. First it wasn't kicking on, then last year wouldn't cycle OFF. I sent it to a friend of mine who does HVAC. $60 in parts and it's working good as new. That's one zero: sixty bucks. I hope the boating gods didn't notice that...

Yeah, the ER space was a huge seller for me, it's so easy to do the work down there. Last month I had a shop come out to replace the injectors on both engines, they sent 2 guys to do it, one on each engine. They had plenty of room to work.

The previous owner located the house battery bank there, he built a custom tray to put them in, I had to modify it a bit to fit my new 6v golf cart batteries, but it holds 4 of them there.

i added two tabs this winter (one over each prop pocket) as mine does the same. Should be able to water test in a month or so.
Don't forget your shoe on the lift arm! ;)

Are the new tabs wired with the originals on one switch? They should help quite a bit.

I am jealous! That is impressive amount of room. I also envy the engine room hatch.

This is what I have:

The helm seats cover the port and starboard hatches. The center hatch is accessible with the seats in place.

Hey John, definitely enjoying the weather down here. We were on boat all day today with friends visiting from Calif, and doing the same with some local family members tomorrow.

Your comments on seat height are spot on. Thats why I made sure when the seat is lowered, it is perfectly level with the captain seat. Like you, that is my shaded catnap position. But I paid a grand for the extra height. I like your solution more. Now that I am in clear water, I could have used that grand for underwater lights. :).

Also, I know it does not make sense, but I find she runs better with 1/2 water tank. I don’t find the xtra water weight beinging the bow down. But, I am happy with her running attitude.

Now that my fresh water gauge is working properly again I might try your 1/2 full tank idea.

Ha that's awesome that you noticed it! I looked all over for that shoe the other day and never did find it!

They are all wired into one switch.

Has anyone had an issue with the bow roller using a Mantus scoop style anchor? TIA

Has anyone replaced their anchor/running light on the radar arch? It is shaped to extend back past the open array radar. My light is shot! The holes are in bad shape, pins not much better and threads for the black connector are also shot. I have fixed this light almost every season for the last 7 or so seasons, because it has gotten warn from all the times it has been installed and reinstalled for shrink wrap. I just want to replace the whole contraption with an LED light. I found some nice replacements, from Edson, but they are made to be mounted to the Edson radar mount, but our radars are mounted directly to the radar arch. The 380 dancer has the exact same light pole and I would think so do other Sea Ray models from this era, so I may double back and post in a generic thread. For now, I am coming to you guys/gals....

If I can find a direct replacement with the mount, I would buy it and just change out the halogen bulbs to LED's.

Helllllp!
