Hey all, Question for the group.. In the process of moving to a house on the water that has a lift (16,000lb) limit. Right now, I have a 370 which is too big, and won't be needed since I won't be at dock weekending anymore. Has anyone downsized and what to? I still want something that won't slam around out in the bay but doesn't need all the accommodations. That is most important becuase I remember when I had a 210 bowrider and the ride was very abusive.

i think i would choose a 25' or so bow rider that has a small head built in......i really like the Cobalt large bow riders....

You said house on the water and I think most are assuming a lake - if that the case I am also a big fan of the Cobalt bowriders for lake boats. If it's salt water an outboard SeaRay Sundeck or a center console of some sort might be in order.

Unless your boat is too big for your slip, you should reconsider downsizing. Especially if you have ocean access why go smaller? We live on the water and would really not enjoy a smaller boat nearly as much as our 3200 Open. It gives us the room we need.

There is ocean access but majority of time would be spent on the Bay. The issue is though that the boat is too big for the lift

Sea Ray 350 SLX....the perfect day boat!
Those are awesome boats....guy a couple of fingers over from me just bought one and it's an incredibly functional, impressive boat.

When looking for a boat that will fit that lift, remember that the specs for boat models typically list the dry-weight. For example, mine, is listed as 12000 lbs, but by my calculation, once you add the weight of the motors, generator, batteries, water, fuel, my fat ass, etc. I'm figuring it to sit at around 17000 - 18000.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that's right.

Dry weight includes motor(s) and generator, and probably the spec'd batteries as it came from the factory. It does not include any fluids: oil, transmission, water, gas etc.

I think the weight that would not include motors, gen and batteries would be hull weight.

That could be. I was reading up on it the other day and one article said it didn't include the motors. I'll have to see if I can dig that up again. That said, I don't know how Sea Ray, specifically, calculates it.

I'd buy the boat you need or keep the boat you have if it works for you. Sounds like the lift is driving the decision. Get the lift you need for the boat you need.

If you are not overnighting then I would opt for anything but a cruiser. Why push the weight and sacrifice outdoor space by having a large cabin. If you prefer a closed bow as I did, then look for an SS model (older Searay or newer Formula) which minimized cabin space but tons of open seating in the cockpit. Chaparral I think still offers a sport cuddy line with ample outdoor seating and amenities.

All a great advice, appreciate it. With no need to sleep aboard anymore and a baby on the way, I've most recently been looking a 290 Sundeck.
