Amazon For Parts...

At work seems like we are always ordering some type of cables, equip, etc.

One of our tech people told me the other day that they order Dell stuff off of Amazon - better delivery than ordering from Dell.

Craftsman is low grade chinese crap now. The last set of Craftsman tools I bought were just pathetic.

For people above 50 or so it is difficult to separate our nostalgic feelings for iconic brands with the current state of many of these brands.

Schwinn bicycles were high quality bicycles built by an American company. Today it is just a name owned by a holding company placed on cheap bikes for a feel. Last I knew for Target Stores.

RCA, Magnavox, just names sold to anyone willing to pay to use it.

As a young man almost all my tools were Craftsman. I still have many of them from the 70's. Sears Craftsman philosophy was, "we have a lifetime warranty, so we better build them great" back then. To "we have a lifetime warranty we better build them cheap" today.

I still have all my Craftsman tools... wrenches, sockets, etc... from the 70's. Started my work career at Sears, in the catalog dept. Then into warehousing.
They just closed the Sears nearest me. Sad to see it go.

Does anybody know if they still honor the lifetime replacement warranty at Lowes for the craftsman line?
Lowes will honor warranty regardless of where you bought it...if they carry the same item individually, they wont breakup a set and it applies to hand tools only

I still use the Craftsman 1/2" ratchet and sockets my Dad gave me when I was 13. I'm 65 now. I just broke a 5/8" socket. I'll have a hard time replacing it. Lowes doesn't have single sockets and Husky and Kobalt are crap.
They make Harbor Freight look good!

I have a lot of Craftsman hand tools from 30+ years ago, and they're still in my roll around tool box. The crap they sell now with the Craftsman name on it are worse than Husky and Kobalt.

Time versus Cost... I try to plan ahead so if I can get it cheaper by waiting a few days more it than I do, but if it's on fire and I needed it yesterday most times I'm paying more for it because I have to have it now. I shop the worlds internet when I have the time and try to stretch that dollar as far as it will go !!!

Easy Capt. don’t lump all Craftsman together. The company I work for has been making Craftsman garage door openers for 55 years. They run right down the same line with Liftmaster and Chamberlain. Same quality across all three brands. Best in the industry.

Notice my post says "Craftsman hand tools"............

I guess I should of replyed to your earlier post that started with:

Craftsman is low grade chinese crap now

I just want it to be clear to everyone that not all Craftsman stuff comes from China or that it is crappy. I do agree that their tools are not what they used to be.

Sorry to derail the thread and turn this into a Chamberlain commercial. I just can’t help defending the brand.

If you want to defend your "brand", why does a company supply a company that has the reputation of "low grade Chinese crap" with their product, thereby sullying the other products associated with it?

The way things are going Harbor Freight will have Craftsman tools before long. LOL

There are some things that even Harbor Freight won't do.............

I’m not at the pay grade to make that decision however we have been making openers for Sears for 55 years. They are are our oldest customer. We were there for the growth. Their heyday and now the decline. While many lines that they carry are no longer the same quality ours shouldn’t be included in the blanket statement on Craftsman. That was my only point.

Had a grill from Sears that I bought in the mid 80’s it lasted about 20 years. Got a replacement from Sears and it lasted about 3 or 4 years.
I’ve had Craftsman tools for decades and broken a few along the way. Walked in to a Sears and got replacements with no problem. About a dozen years ago they replaced a ratchet with a “rebuilt ratchet” that has been replaced twice more.
IMHO: Sears/Craftsman committed corporate suicide when they let their quality do downhill and missed the boat on the Internet.

Don’t give up on them yet. A couple years ago, Sears sold the craftsman product line to Stanley Black and Decker. While I can’t speak for the “passive” tools, like hammers and screwdrivers, the power tools are now developed by the very same group that develops Dewalt power tools. So if you’re looking for power tools that are not quite the price point of Dewalt, but that are better than the lime green crap at Home Depot, take another look at Craftsman. Yes, they will likely be built in China (isn’t everything?) but they will be designed in America.

I just don’t like it when people shop at brick and mortar, then after finding what they want, go save 50$ on a 1000$ order by shopping online. Pay the extra 50$, if you don’t, you won’t have that brick and mortar to physically hold items in your hands to see if you like it.
I just bought a new radar/GPS from boemarine.com, the combination of free shipping, rebate from Simrad, and 0% interest for 6 months is what swayed me...

I’m glad you said this. It is totally wrong to go into a store, check out the products, perhaps get help from the sales associate, and then go buy something online for less. I’ll go even further and say that stealing from the brick-and-mortar store. You used their facility, their electricity, their heat and air-conditioning, their sales staff and their inventory, knowing full well you were going to buy it elsewhere. Look, I love Amazon, and I shop there a lot. But I will not go into utilize the resources of a brick-and-mortar store and then turn around and buy online. Yes, I know, sometimes you can save a lot of money doing that. But it’s just wrong. Do your research online and buy online.

It's called "capitalism". If the brick and mortars want your business, then they need to find ways to get it. It's silly to allege someone is "stealing" from the B&M by looking and not buying from them.

Case in point: West Marine.

In the near past West Marine decided to meet prices of any competitor. I started going there more and buying more products from them. From what I learned WM sales volume increased considerably.

Today I went there to buy some oil. When I was checking out I showed them my cellphone and where I could get it substantially less. I was informed of their "new price match" policy. Essentially now they will not price match internet sellers, and they will only price match Amazon if the product is sold and handled by Amazon direct. They will price match only stores in a 50 mile radius. I showed them that Walmart had it for less, but they had to confirm that Walmart actually had it in stock before they would price match it.

Needless to say, I'll go back to ordering online and WM will get less of my business. Their choice, and my choice.

OK...so where's the hot spot to buy oil ?
