Buzzer goes off for mysterious reason
After a period of heavy rain, I went to check on my boat and as soon as I stepped on the swim platform a buzzer goes off. Totally surprised, since everything was off, I rushed to the instrument panel to see what was wrong and then inside the cabin. As soon as I got in the cabin the buzzer stopped and never went off again. It is a 2000 Sea Ray 340. Any idea on what it could be? Thanks.

Does the bilge pump have an alarm? May high water alarm?

When you stepped on swim platform water in bilge ran to the stern maybe?

High water bilge should be alarmed.

But you should have more than one bilge pump in a boat that size.

I have 2 on my 290 DA. One not alarmed (lower in the bilge automatic and it works off a switch on the helm) ...... the high water bilge pump is automatic and alarmed.

Maybe the lower bilge pump stopped working.

Do you have water in the bilge?

Great suggestions. I did not make the connection. Thank you very much.
I will check for water in the bilge, we had a lot of rain this winter.

Look under the cabin floor hatches also... I have a bilge pump there that will set off the alarm.

+1 on this....i had the same thing happen...intermittent buzzer sounding...discovered water in the rear bilge in the aft cabin....water would slowly fill up the sump and the pump would kick on for a minute or so until the water level went down enough to let the float switch rest....then the cycle would repeat....

You guys are fantastic. I found high water in the small bilge in the after cabin right where a pump is but not working.
Also some water in the ER. Thanks again. I wish I had more knowledge of my boat. Lesson learned.

Please set that as a go do for this year. Knowing all the systems in your boat can really reduce the stress level when something happens while away from the dock. I bet there's even someone close to your location that can walk you through them if needed.

I have to pick your brain again. I totally emptied the after cabin bilge but when I got back to check the boat a couple of days later I found again water in it. I emptied it again and two days later water again. Considering that I did nothing on the boat and no rain, I can’t figure out where the water is coming from. Any idea? Thanks.

in my case this happened right after i bought my boat...turns out both of the bilge pumps in the engine room were not working via their float switches...they would work with the manual switch on the dash...i had a slow leak from a rudder packing and over time enough water had collected in the bilge to come up a few inches on the bulkhead wall between the ER and the aft cabin....there was a very small hole in the bulkhead wall allowing water to pass through it into the aft cabin bilge...

I will check that. Thanks
