Thinking of removing the decals from my 240 Sundeck as they are looking a little faded, not too bad but not new either. Wondering whether to leave the boat clean once they are off or maybe some kind of updated decals. Just looking for ideas and pictures if you have removed yours.

Personally I never cared for the decal graphics - a boot stripe and maybe a pin strip along the shear, but overall I prefer a clean classic look. I took the pin striping off my 185 with the intent on replacing it, but liked the look without. If the "leading edge" decal on the side every got messed up I would remove it also.

I think you are going to have a hard time finding those decals and if you do they will be more expensive than you thing. If it was me I would take them off and see how it looks, you can get the shading out if there is any - may take some work. If I replaced it with anything it would be a boot strip and maybe extend the striping forward of the porthole all they way back. That's just my opinion.

I'd be pretty surprised if you ended up being okay with the way it looks after you remove the decals. I've removed names and hull stripes in the past and what's generally left behind has been "quite noticeable". I can only imagine the gray will be more noticeable than the white...?

If you don't think you can recover with a replacement set of decals I'd recommend extreme caution! Once those suckers come off you're fully committed...unless you want to repaint it :)

I'm not a fan of sticking vinyl decals and stripes on boats. They are a hassle to detail around and no matter how careful you are they get nicked. Boot stripes get nicked by debris floating in the water and when launching and retrieving trailer boats. Decals get messed up by minor trailer mishaps that seem to be unavoidable. They add nothing of value and add costs to your maintenance budget if you are meticulous about keeping your boat looking good. If you like the look of the decals, get some quotes from a body shop for replicating the design using Imrom or some other durable paint and be done with the ongoing repair of vinyl stickers. I have seen at least one old SR where the owner did this with the red gelcoat on his boat, and it held up for years. Prior to that he was always waxing it to try to maintain a shine. Should work for decals and boot stripes as well. Might even save you money.

If your heart is set on sticking with the decals there are tons of shops (even in little Charleston, WV where I live) that can scan and replicate those decals fairly easily. It would be much less expensive than trying to find some new old stock someone wants an arm and a leg for.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I'm thinking of taking the decals off but not replacing them with like for like. I may leave it clean looking or just do a slightly updated Sundeck logo (I think). I like what MonacoMike has done with the name, looks a lot more modern.

If you do not do something you will see the ghosting of the old logo. The new on will break it up.
