Hi All,
I have a 2008 290, new boat to me, and one of the first upgrades is sound system as its probably the most important aspect of the boat! Going to install either JL MX650 or MX770 in the sides at bottom of arch. Disconnect the "front" speakers which are blocked by the cabin door and helm seat and install MX650 in the arch pointing down. Unfortunately all four speakers are still not optimally placed since they're kind of all installed in a ring. Would love to get something upfront or in back but don't see any good options.

Can anyone recommend best locations for one or two 10" subs. I would love to see some pictures as I can't find much for the 290s. Curious where the factory location was for the upgraded stereo. I'm not a big fan of infinite baffle subs. They don't sound "tight" and quick to me and they tend to vibrate unintended enclosures. I'm going to attempt to fiberglass a sealed enclosure but space is going to be extremely tight especially with the 10" sub and very challenging access. Not sure if I can actually do it.

Thanks!

Pyro, what did you end up doing?

Freshwater here, but when we bought ours it came with a 10” under the forward bench seat. ie if you are a pax facing aft behind the captain, you get a free massage. It is in a fiberglass marine enclosure and can be moved if needed, but theres no readon you would.

On my 2008 290 the subwoofer in the cockpit is factory located on the port wall where it is blocked by the cabin door when open.

Alternatives are under the helm seat facing aft or under the aft bench facing forward.

I am still undecided on subwoofer location. It seems to be near impossible for sealed enclosure like I prefer. For infinite baffle the best spots seem to be under helm seat facing aft, or the rear seats facing forward. I think for this year since I have a lot of other projects I'm going to cheat and simply make a small sealed box and stuff under the rear seats for some experimentation and see how it sounds. There is a small 2x4" opening/port I hope sound comes out of. Next year I will either commit to fiberglassing two sealed boxes in that rear seat facing forward, or just adding a infinite baffle to the helm seat and admit boat's aren't ideal acoustic environments.

Thanks for telling me the factory position. There is a lot of space behind that panel, but seems to be constantly blocked by the cabin door which is nearly always open.

I've replaced the two main speakers in the lower arch. Next I need to check depth in top of arch and see if I can install two firing down, possible with a spacer.

I did find a good spot for the amp. In mid-birth cabin next to TV there is a 15" access panel. If you take that out there is approx. 12" deep area against the outer hull. I installed a backer board for amp which requires a right angle drill and a LOT of patience due to very limited access. I drilled hole in bulkhead towards batteries and ran new power cables.
