I don't know the story but what a sad way to go....

It was a few years ago, if I remember correctly, and the skipper ignored the advice to get a pilot for those waters -- Bahamas.

My thoughts when I first saw the pics was that it happened a few years ago also.

Sad to see such a beautiful boat go like that.

So sad indeed... seems like something could have been salvaged. :(

I remember seeing those pics and cringing not just about the destruction of the boat, but all the salvageable parts still on her! No-one even bothered to grab those hulls vents.

Had a friend there the day it happened. Back then boats did come inside the reef but it required local knowledge and the skipper didn't want to pay someone to guide him in. My friend said you could hear it hit the coral and tear the drive train off the boat.

No one was hurt but the authorities showed up and a decision was made that the boat could not be salvaged. She said that it was really sad to watch the boat being torn apart by the excavator.

Don't worry......I'm sure his stupidity was covered by our insurance premiums...........

We were in Spanish Wells last week and one of the boats at the Marina was hiring a pilot to take him through the devils backbone. It was just chatter on the dock, not the guy that hired the pilot, but someone said the going rate for a pilot was just $60. Like I said, just dock talk, but if that’s true, what a shame

My question is... did they drain he tanks first?

That was painful to look at knowing I will never be able to afford that type of boat.

I have been watching a youtube channel of a married couple living on a sailboat traveling the world. Last week I watched an episode where they went through the Devil's Backbone. They had talked of renting a captain but had went through it a few years earlier with a captain. This time they waited for a larger yacht to go through and they used the AIS? or some plotter thing and plotted the yachts course then followed it.
