My 2006 SR Sundancer 340 appears to need a new A/C. The compressor tries to come on but fails and overheats shutting down. Water flow is very good. A/C technician says best to replace unit but quoted me what appears to be a stupid high price. Does anyone know the appropriate replacement unit and best place to purchase? According to the boat's manual it appears to be a 12000BTU. Many thanks.

I replace mine with this in a 16000 BTU. Works great and quite! Price was pretty good too.

Does the compressor actually start? How hot does the hest exchanger get? Can you keep your hand on it? Sometimes the temp switches go bad, but other times you can have a buildup of scale in the raw water side that insulates any of the hest exchanging.
Cleanning the scale is an easy process......

Marine Aire has 11000 BTU with guages and compressor is in a housing for lower noise. about $1500. I would assume + shipping. Amazon might be a better deal.

Assuming the original install has not been messed up by dyi fixes in the past, replacement is an easy remove and replace swap. So, shop online and buy an OEM unit and swap it out. When my boat was brand new Tiara changed the build spec on the 32 Open because a 12,000 BTU unit proved to be too small. They sent a tech to my dock and removed and replaced the original with a larger unit. The entire swap was done in under 30 minutes.

+1 on the MarineAir. Dock neighbor installed a 16k unit for less than $1500. Had it done in an hour.

It’s best for him if you pay him to swap units.

When I replaced mine (same year/model boat), I went back with the Crusiair 12000 BTU, since I could get parts and service (if needed) semi locally, and the controls and vent hoses matched up. Luckily when I purchased the boat I had the opportunity to buy an extended warranty that covered this. It paid for itself on this one claim. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while!

In Ft. Lauderdale the 12k is too small. Upsize to a 16K.

My 2 1/2 year old Dometic Turbo 16K unit died last week. Local guy quoted me $2300 for a new one, I got online and found the same model at Great Lakes Skipper for $1600, with shipping came to $1900. It arrives Tuesday, I figure a couple of hours to swap out (doing it myself).

I considered the MarinAire unit, but it came in a $100 more and a year less warranty.
