Hi guys

I am considering a change from my current 2002 460 to a slightly bigger 510 of similar age.

Has anyone real world experience of the change, I would like to know the good and bad implications of the move

Thanks

Graham

I've run 2 510DA's.....this is the biggest 50 ft boat you will ever get on. They are huge.

I loved they way they run and handle seas, however, I am not a fan of the 3196 powered ones. The 3406 was an option and worth looking for. The 3406 is bullet proof and makes for a much faster cruised speed. The 3196's require monitoring after cooler service. Cat has fixed the problems with the 3196 after coolers but you would need to be sure any 3196's you are considering have the latest version on them.

I think Frank means the 3196 Aftercoolers. Look for the 5147 stamp on the ear of the after cooler. These after coolers have been as solid as anything else Cat has done.

Thanks for these responses.

I was also hoping for some feedback on the usability of each boat, particularly when anchored off for a week or so. Is one better and easier than the other to live with, and why.

You are correct. I was responding to a long PM about Cat heat exchangers and just had heat exchangers on the brain when I posted my response here. I did go back and edit the post so it is now correct. Thanks for catching my oversight.

Happens all the time to me, Frank!

Graham, have you gotten onto a 510 to check it out? I think that would start to answer some of your questions.
