Freezer runs well on 120v. Can hear compressor operating on 12v but even with full batteries the freezer starts warming after just a few hours. Freon is filled property.

Thoughts?

Pulled freezer and downloaded compressor manual for the Danfoss BD35F. This is a simple diagnostic led connection that flashes codes 1-6. As the only part that can be replaced is the controller, I am going ahead with that. I do note that the battery protection circuit can be varied to allow the compressor to remain on at lower voltages. Aside from draining house batteries a bit lower before freezer kicks off, is there any other downside to make the adjustment?

I have a portable fridge/freezer that used the bd50 compressor..... on mains power or on 24v, it’s an absolute champion and if you’re not careful it freezes the beer....

OTOH, on 12v it’s a tempremental little beyotch, takes ages to chill down, complains about voltage every time the compressor starts, trips out when the battery is at 80%....

It seems that the bd50 (I’ve heard many similar reports about it) is just barely useable on 12volt - maybe the bd35f is similar (as according to the manual it’s also a 12/24 volt model) whereas the 12 volt only models (we had a bunch of them at work) seem to take all sorts of abuse, even had some continuing to run down at 9 volts....

Before replacing any componentry, Id recommend going through your entire wiring system making absolutely sure everything is in top condition (no corrosion, dirty connections etc) and the wiring is bigger than the recommended sizes.
