Time to change my transmission fluid. 2000 340 DA w/ 7.4L V-drives. Trans. are Hurth 630. I have read conflicting posts on how to get the old fluid out. Can it be sucked/pumped out through the dipstick hole or where the filter is housed? I plan on replacing the filters so I can do either way. I read somewhere that you cannot suck it out and it must be drained from the bottom some how to insure all the old fluid is removed. TIA for your help.

You can suck it out from the dip stick, then remove the filter and suck out the rest from there. That will get like 99% of the fluid out. Make sure you read the dipstick now before refilling. Fill to where it is now, not the full line.

I always remove from the filter area. It goes straight to the bottom.

Can you remove the filter first without removing any fluid? I just never tried that and was safe starting with the dip stick.

I suck it out through the dipstick opening.

Below is a great thread that will give you all you need to know to do a tranny fluid change. Did mine from this tip and all worked out great. Keep track of how much you remove and put the same amount back in then follow the recommended procedure for checking the level. http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/changing-transmission-fluid.24048/

Post #42 has a picture of the transmission looking at the front side. The yellow tag is the filter cap. Allen wrench to get it off.
