I'm taking a poll, I'm not sure if everyone has this friend. I have been friends with this person since we where kids, we lost touch and seldom talk to each other, but since he found out that I have a boat I get regular phone calls from him from April til Sept. Just curious how other boat owners handle this.

We Don't either
I would vote for number 3 but it doesn’t fit our profile. We would never accept fuel money from our guests (let alone “make them” pay for fuel).
It was being facetious, We don't accept money either. Just trying to be funny I guess

We have friends that sold their boat to go on a long vacation overseas. Now instead of looking at for a new boat they have invited themselves on our boat and said its cheaper for me to give you gas money than buy a new boat....ARRRGH!

We had friends that came out with us quite a bit a few summers ago. He was really getting into it and began shopping for his own. Some time went by and I asked how his search was going. With a straight face he replied "why would I get a boat when I can come out with you?" That was the last time he was ever on my boat...

Who do I talk to about no power to my battery charger from shore power. I am from Cape Coral Fl. Anyone from there who can help.

Ok guess everyone is sleeping

Maybe trying a thread about boat repairs, But if it where my boat and I was trying to trouble shoot it my self I would use a voltmeter. and start at the plug and work my way back until I found where the loose connection is.

We have things scheduled through out the boating season way ahead of time like rendezvous, holiday weekends, trips, vacations etc.... that are either just us or with family/friends. Those weekends are spoken for. Then we decide what weekends are open for family and or friends. We make a list of those dates and email them out to family and friends (my kids get the list first). These are people we would have no problem spending time on the boat with and want to. It works out very well.... some friends even put in extra dates in case of rain. And just for the record my wife organizes all this... I just drive :)

if your 'friend' is inviting himself to join you on the boat i have a problem with that and would find a way to tell him...i have no problem inviting others on our boat when we plan to cruise anyway as long as we want to have company and i enjoy their company and they behave like responsible passengers....if you still enjoy the company of this 'friend' then just let the process be that you do the inviting if/when you want to....if i am planning on going on a cruise anyway i cannot justify asking my passengers/friends for any means of compensation whether it be fuel money or them buying us a dinner....i was going to spend the money for the cruise anyway with or without them on board...

sometimes the Admiral and I enjoy the occasional cruise with just us two on board....

All my friends for the most part have boats.
When we do have friends come with us it is for no more than two nights.

We dont expect for them to pay for fuel are food. It is always our pleasure to provide a great no drama time.

Now if I had a friend that said what he said to you. They would immediately put them on the dont invite again list!

Most non boaters have no clue what it cost or what hard work goes into keeping a boat pristine and in good working order let alone the fuel cost and they never will until they own a boat of there own.
