Is there a way to convert from hydraulic trim tabs to electric?? I have the electric on my boat and a friend has hydraulic. He is always chasing leaks and right now it looks like his motor may have died. At this point it may make more sense to just covert to the electric style. Are kits available??

Wow, that’s interesting. Had no idea they had a kit like that. I might take this on one weekend.

Of course this is just my opinion, but changing over to electric doesn't negate problems. Electric motors can, and do, fail. Generally speaking, the Bennett hydraulic system is one of the most reliable systems on a boat, often going decades without thinking about them. Leaks are easy to fix, as well - whether it's the brass nipple, o-rings, ferrule connection, etc. All easy to fix (and very inexpensive) and typically it's the last time you have to fix it. It sounds as if it just hasn't been fixed the right way? Can't comment on the motor - but usually the system doesn't need a whole new motor - it "could" be as simple as a bad/corroded wire. Suggestion... have a pro look at it or contact Bennett directly for some tech help (take a look at their website for tech help, too).

Not for nothing, but the hydraulic system has an electric motor as well. That said, you're right the hydraulic system as proven to be very reliable.

True... but it "lives" in a better environment :) . I have less experience with the Bennett electrics than I do with the Lenco's - but I have definitely seen more failures with the Lenco motor than the Bennett hydraulic motor... and, by far, I see MANY more boats with the hydraulic system, in general.

But, hey, none of this is to "knock" the electric system. If one wants it, go for it!
