What everybodys take on painting rubber hoses?

All mine were painted, but over time the paint cracked and they didn't look so nice as the paint didn't stick well. Plus I can't imagine the chemicals are good for the rubber.

So...do you paint of not paint your rubber hoses? I think mine are going back in unpainted.

Can't think of a reason to paint them. When working on the boat you will flex them and crack the paint. Plus, why go to the trouble to begin with? I can see getting a little overspray on them maybe if you paint parts that are wrenched and you are trying to avoid salt water corrosion. To go to the trouble of purposely painting them makes little sense. Boats are enough work without adding to the list of things to care for. The hoses in this photo look fine to my eye without paint.

Tough call since if you don’t paint them some will be painted and some not.
I wouldn’t paint them. Instead, it’s a good opportunity to start replacing them all over time. When deciding which ones to replace next just pick some painted ones.
Personally, I think it’s easier for me to keep an eye on how healthy they look when they aren’t painted,

Automotive MFG’s painted all kinds of hoses back in the day due to ease of construction during the engine build. The painted hose disappeared as soon as the hose needed replaced.

The reason the Caterpillar hoses are painted is because the engines were painted white by Ring Power, the Cat distributor in Florida that sold the engines to Sea Ray. Ring marinized the base engine by adding, remote oil and fuel filters, heat exchangers, seawater pumps, etc to the basic Cat engine product then painted the engines what ever color the boat manufacturer who was buying them specified.

I don't have an opinion either way on painting the hoses you are replacing. I have chosen not to paint the hoses I replaced mostly because it gives me a quick reference as to when/if a hose was replaced.

WHY would you ever paint a hose? To cover the cracks? No one is looking at my engine room but me. And I'm not impressed easily...........

Love the engine room steps oem?

I wonder if the organic solvents in most rattle can paints would attack the rubber in the hoses? I personally wouldn't paint the hoses for that reason. Also the aforementioned flaking when working on the engines will make them look ratty soon enough. I personally like the contrast of a black hose against a light engine.

I'm not sure if my hoses were original or if a PO replaced and painted.

Mine are going back in natural black
