Mercury VesselView Mobile on sale. 45% off MSRP

Thanks for the heads up.

Has anyone connected this device to 5.0 motors? Looking to figure out where to plug in this device.

Mercury responded to my email saying I need to have a dealer program a network first since I have 2 motors (FYI I do have a complete SC setup). So apparently with twins this is more than a "plug and play" $149. purchase. Based on one of the forum members with a single - it was an easy install no tech needed for programming.

Nah. They just need a tech to come out and reprogram the ECM on the port engine. From the factory, all engines come as starboard engines. You need to do this so the gateway doesn’t see tons of competing info about SB engines and nothing on port engines. It’s not really building a network. It’s a ten minute job for the tech. And that includes him open and closing the hatches and climbing in.

Yes it works on the 8.1s. Mine is 2001. The harness is tucked below and behind the oil remote. Kinda got to dig it out. There is a one foot pig tail hooked to it. Unplug the pig tail and you'll find a purple 10 or 12 pin adapter. That's where you plug the BT two. If twin, you'll need cables, boxes and resistors.

I am curious about the twin setup, in another thread I see that two four way junctions are needed.
I have no clue how this stuff works, so be kind. But cant the cables from the engines and the vvm be connected to one junction box? Instead of two boxes and the jumper cable. I just received the VVM module, but have not orderd the cables and boxes.

I'm interested in this as well. I have a 280 with twin 5.0's

Pete, I just completed installing a Mercury NEMA 2000 Gateway to connect my VesselView to the Raymarine Axiom displays. Mercury informed me that you do not need the Mercury Harness-Adaptor unless you would like to power the gateway from either ignition switch. The port and starboard engine junction boxes are linked together.

Yeah, I actually bought that dual engine harness adapter and multiple junction boxes and could NOT get the system to work. I ended up ditching the harness and one of the J boxes and just take both engine SC cables into the junction, with cap and the NMEA gateway. Works like a champ. But you do need to get the port engine reprogrammed by a Mercruiser tech.

This is true... there are two harnesses that can connect both jboxes. One of them works, the other does not but they look nearly the same. Sorry you got lead to the wrong one.

Yes, you can use a 6way box vs two 4ways. The 6 ways leaves you with one port to hook a computer up and program your engines as a plug and play option.

Just ordered. Pretty sure I will need a 6 port junction box (one port for VVM, one for terminator, one coming from port engine, one coming from starboard engine, and one going to the smartcraft display (SC5000 in my case). I have 2007 MIE 350 engines. Oh, and they ask you for your serial number when purchasing, hp/cylinders, and model number. Fortunately, I still have my survey and the serial #s are documented there.

I had 2 4 ways with an empty port on each.
I did not need any additional ports for vv502 with vv link Install. I have the same set up.
