I bought a Sea Ray 260 DA a few months ago. Now I'm on and renovating the cylinder heads and the transom. I have also bought new Barr manifold & Riser.
I have a really big steearing level play (almost from side to side)and thats the reason for renovating the transom, I will put in a Stainless swivel pin and a new steeringarm, bushings etc.
I will upload some Pictures to show my progress.

I cannot upload a movie but the free play is between these positions. Its the steering arm which is poor, the swivel pin doesn't move at all.

You got a serious swivel shaft seal leak. When you let it leak for that length of time the housing where the seal presses in gets corroded. At that point the transom housing becomes a throw away piece

I know but I will take apart everything and examine the status before I decide to renovate or buy a new transom.
Cost is approx from 3100 USD here in Sweden for a new one.

I chose not to renovate the transom since the difference in cost between renovating or buying a new is only 680 usd, spare parts are expensive.

Since you are going through all this work with the engine out here are a couple of things I would consider:
1) Can you swap over from the wet joint to dry joint manifolds
2) Bypass the Bravo 3 water intake and put in a through hull pickup and a strainer (with the engine out this should be easier).

Hi Kevin!
I have already bought manifolds and risers but maby I will change to dry joint manifolds next time.

I have been thinking of bypassing the Bravo 3 and using the through hull pickup for the air conditioning system.

I was thinking you could perhaps exchange them. It is the channels in the wet joint riser (spacer) that are failure prone since they are so narrow. Also check the angles on the riser elbows. When I did my 260DA years ago Barr did not have the proper angle available and my only option was Mercruiser OEM.

I would use a separate through hull pickup and strainer for each.

The angels are correct. I’m not going to use the air conditioning because it’s not so warm here and I don’t know if it’s works.

The engine is mounted and tested on land and everything works well, but I discovered that it dripped oil from the gear selector cable. So now i had to fix that to.
