Yep, good flow. Although staining on the hull but that is a different matter.

I suspect you are going to have a hard time finding Aquamet shafting in Colorado. However, if a local machine shop can order it, the original shafts were Aquamet 19, from there the machining isn't complicated: a taper, a keyway and threads on both ends and a hole drilled for cotter pins on the prop end.

The tapers are industry standards to mate with the prop and transmission coupler, so the best approach is to order the shafting then haul the boat out of the water and remove the shaft you are replacing and take it to your machine shop for them to copy. The shafts finish 92.25" long so you will probably need to buy a 10ft. stick for each shaft you re replacing. One shaft will probably cost $750-$900, with no shipping.

The other alternative is to go to a Sea Ray dealer and order a shaft from the factory. However, the factory is closed and never made the shafts anyway, so they will need to order one from their vendor and ship it to you. Freight will be expensive and will be by common carrier, plus you will have a Sea Ray mark up and a dealer's mark up and one shaft my cost $2000-$2500.

That is all I've got.....!
Thank you very much. Sorry for the late response.

I am dealing with Prop Shop out of Washington. The boat is out of the water and I hope to remove the shaft this coming weekend. FYI the Prop shop wants to go with a split coupling for the new shaft instead of the tapered end for the coupling. They believe it will be stronger than tapering down the OD and will be easier to install. They did not think I could get the nut on the coupling tight enough.

Thanks for your advice.

I was also wondering if you knew of a good replacement refrigerator for a 1998 450 dancer with the galley on the starboard side?

Thank you.

I replaced mine with a Vitrifrigo Sea Classic DP2600iAC Refrigerator / Freezer. Fit right through the hatch and into place with minimal effort. My galley is also to starboard.

Hi All,
Need help... can someone point me in a direction for which trim tab zincs I need for the 2012 450 DA? These are the tabs that sit under the boat, not bolted to the transom.

can someone tell me how much bottom paint I need for my 96 450? petit hydrocoat. on my lake its going to cost me 1500 just to pull, block up and relaunch so I don't want to have to do this again for several years! How mush paint per coat? need atleast 2 right? Maybe 3?

We put 2 coats on the bottom and one more around the waterline typically. You will need 5-6 gallons

We use 2 coats everywhere, the an additional coat on the waterline down to below the chine and finally one additional coat on the bottom wear surfaces like the lifting strakes.

We use 4 gallons of bottom paint, but none of our hardware is painted with regular antifouling bottom paint. It is primed with an epoxy primer and a special metal antifouling paint.

My guess is that if it is done correctly, you will be looking at 4+ gal on a 450DA.

One other comment I'll offer is that the most expensive money you will ever save on a boat is the bottom prep and bottom paint costs.

I’ve been hesitant to post anything related to my anticipated upgrade until now.
I am hopefully moving up to a 98 450 this season. Currently have my 320 in contract for sale and have a contract to purchase a 450. I’ve read this thread from end to end along with many other threads. I may have also read each and everyone of Frank W’s posts on the site. (Especially the ones regarding cored hulls.)

I’ve looked at sundancers up and down the east coast in my price range for months. Ive sat in airports waiting on connecting flights, driven countless hours to visit/view supposedly clean boats with disappointment many times. I’ve seen numerous boats with delaminated vitircore, fully rusted generators, oil soaked bilges and the like. Then on a whim one morning at work I searched nationwide on Craigslist, low and behold I found a 450 for sale by a private owner only a ferry ride away in Connecticut.
Hull survey went well, no unexpected issues were found, hull and decks came through without issue. Engine surveys and sea trial are up next. Not expecting any issues there, based on the condition of the rest of this boat. The prior owners took care of this boat. I know there are a lot of negative posts on line about the cat 3126 engine but there are plenty of them still in still in service.
Any how, looking forward to joining the ranks of the 450 owners. I’ll hopefully know more by the end of this coming week. Thanks in advance for tips and or assistance.

Hi, the one in Red Wing,Mn is still available. I wanted to purchase it but I simply could not get financing.

It’s a nice boat. It’s been for sale for about 2 years. This size boat here is really big and most just do not want this and docking is harder to get.

My only concern now is that it’s been sitting for along time and I’d be really suspicious of the diesel fuel in it.

I know it’s a long ways from you but it is a fresh water boat and there really was not any of the salt water problems visible on it.

There was quite a list of pictures and I took some myself.

I’d bet you could make a great deal on it.

Hold on a minute and I’ll try and add the website.

Got it.

Zack is the guy to talk to. He is very easy to deal with. I bought a boat for them and they were very good about fixing a few problems.

I’d be more than happy to help you out and I don’t get a dime from them.

We are currently under heavy flood conditions and the Mississippi River is a mess. My boat is on the hard stands and will be inaccessible for at least another week. It got flood some I think. The river is receding and needs to go down a foot or more before I could even slog in the mud to it.

The Sea Ray is most likely way above the flood there as it was in the company lot for a long time.

Here is the site.

Hey guys, I'm hauling the boat and I think it's time to replace my dripless shaft seals. They are dripping in the bilge and I have tried burping them to no avail. Does anyone know the part # ? I know they are 1 3/4" (shaft size) but the other measurement is the shaft log and not sure what that dimension is. Is this a time to also do the cutlass bearings, because the shaft will be out ?

Thanks, Mark

Anyone know where SeaRay hides the Glomex gain/amplifier on the '98 450DA?

Well it’s official. I picked up my new to me 98’ 45 Sundancer. Brought it home on a 3.5 hour cruise, first nice day in a while. Was excited to see the burn rate so I went and refilled the tanks as soon as I got to my harbor. Pleasantly surprised to have burned 81 gallons, running 20 knots at 2200 rpms. Excited about learning this new boat, while hopefully applying what I’ve learned from the other sea rays I’ve owned.

Congrats on your new to you boat! Now the obsession begins. What upgrades are in your future?

Thank you! Electronics are very dated, going to have replace the displays, radar... hoping to keep the raypilot autopilot, not sure if it will be compatible with newer mfd’s though. The gold sea ray and gold wave have to go. I have replacements on order... other than that I want to spend time just getting used to her.

Congrat's !!! We took delivery of our '98 12 years ago and we are still loving every minute of it...

Congratulations on your 450. You will love the fuel economy and range of the 450 with the 3126 engines. I typically cruise at 2400 rpms burning 13.3 gph each engine for a total of 26.6 gph traveling at 29 mph (25 knots). I estimate 1gph for the generator. That gives a lot of range carrying 400 gall s of diesel. My cruising partners can’t believe how little fuel I use until they see the pump themselves.

In regards to electronics, I have upgraded to (2) Garmin 8012 displays and the Fantom open array. I have the original Raypilot 650 integrated without any issues using 0183 interface.

We love the boat and ease of handling.

Enjoy your new to you boat.
