Searchlight install

Thats what the rest of the crew is for. Most people don't take their boat out alone, I feel that is a bad idea even though there are times when it is just you.

"Shine the light over there. No, more to the left. Higher now. Listen to me!" (;-) just me. I want to be in control when at the helm.

You sound like a captain that I worked for out on the Bering Sea fishing. He was a bit of a control freak too. LOL I am on a lake and when it becomes night I have already found my fishing hole and parked for the night. The light is for spoting fish and the shore for coyotes and rattle snakes. LOL I guess also if I go to another spot and who ever I have with me will know what to do.

Todd, back to your original question about wiring. I would check to see if there isn't already a set of wires in your bow for a spotlight. I remember reading a thread on here a while ago that Sea Ray wired them all and you can add the switch and light later pretty easily.

While working on the front anchor hatch on my 77 searay I see that there is a set of 12 ga wires up there that I believe would go to a light. It could also go for the front running lights even though it seems to be a bit heavy duty, I have yet to test them to see if it is controlled by a switch or is constantly hot.

There wasn’t on my 97 330. I had to run my own wires.

This is a pic of the light I installed on our 370 Express. Welded a stainless plate on the bow rail and ran the wires into the anchor locker and from there back to the helm. Looked and worked very nicely. Did not look like an afterthought. Added the flag staff at the same time which was removable using a stainless pin through the pole and socket.

This is a similar light on our 300 Weekender using the identical approach as was used on our 370 Express.

This the light on our 260 Express. Proved to be a bad location and the light did not withstand heavy seas. Boat came this way from the factory and was poorly conceived and executed. The factory original on the 300 Weekender looked better but was just as flimsy. The light on that boat in the prior pic is one I installed after the factory supplied product failed in the first season.

Here is mine. Its a Jabsco installed where the OEM one would have been. Was hard to run the wires from the helm all the way up and I had to extend the Jabsco wiring with heavy wiring because it was about 10 feet too short.
