460 DA Owners Thread

View attachment 63215 View attachment 63216 I don’t think the 400 head and the 460 are the same actually. If it were me I would template it even if he did have a pattern because all boats are slightly different.

I used teak and holly on the steps. Attached is a pic

Looks great I've been wanting to do this on my 1999 400 DA. Did you remove the old steps, or did someone else so it? I'm wondering how difficult it is to remove the steps? I'm worried about striping off the carpet and not being able to remove the stairs.

No need to remove the old steps. The teak and holly is just plywood fitted over the original steps with real moulding fitted to to the fronts.

Hi Jaws,
Just rereading your post in anticipation of an impending purchase of a 460DA: what size memory foam did you get?
Is the "bed' an actual queen size or full? I'm also curious about the salon "bed"?
Thanks!
Hey Bob,
Where are you located? Did you find a 460 yet?

Hi Carpedmman,
yes, just completed a survey on an '05 in Sarasota, Fl. Nice boat. Waiting for written survey results. It's a well maintained boat but survey turned up issues with turbos.(expensive, as you know). The "Admiral" is disappointed , as we were willing to pay a premium for a boat that appeared to be maintained "to-the-nines". For the most part, I believe it was, but surveyor was concerned about the turbos impending failure. Jury is out..

Hello Bob-
I'm sorry to hear about the survey on the '05. That's a tough decision to make. Out of curiosity, was it a Cummings tech that diagnosed the turbo problem or just a general surveyor? Either way, I hope you can get some resolution...Best of luck in your search!
Stuart

Thanks Stuart. Surveyor was a general surveyor. He also currently owns his own 44' SR. Having been through a few surveys now I thought he did a much more comprehensive survey than the others, including engine specific surveyors. Cliff Schmidt was his name. "S2 Marine.

boat yard charges by water line
I measured mine today. From the transom along the bottom paint line to the bow where the water stops touching the paint was 38'. If that's want you are looking for. By definition,"a(1) : the point on the hull of a ship or boat to which the water rises". Obviously the LOA is much greater but the waterline is 38'.

Interesting the boat yard wants to know "water line"...I wish mine would charge by that as opposed to LOA. :)

Good morning to the 460 group!
Hope you all enjoyed a great holiday season. We finally got snow in northern Michigan on New Years eve, so it started feeling like winter. That being said, only 124 more days until we get to launch the boat!! :)

We've been doing a lot of updating and upgrades the past couple months and we finally got this one done...new 460 emblems. They are made from mirrored acrylic with a black sticker layer on top to give it depth. My buddy in Traverse City owns a sign shop and has a CNC machine to make these. They are the exact same size as the factory originals just better looking. :) If anyone wanted new ones for their boat he has the file saved and can cut them out and ship them to you. It was an easy upgrade and it made the boat look a bit more modern. (We also changed all of the gold SR emblems to the newer chrome).

Allen is my friend and the owner, but he has a great team as well. He also does Sea-Dek flooring and boat name logos etc. If you were to have your boat name done, he can also get hat's, shirts etc to match the logo... Basically can do it all! he is the person that digitized my salon floor so that the new flooring would fit perfectly. He is an avid boater with a Sea Ray as well, so he is as meticulous as we are. :)

These are really great looking on the boat!!!

Great looking 460 logos. How did you get the old ones off? Was it hard?
Thanks for the info.

Not hard at all. Just take your time! The actually came off pretty easy as far as the actual emblem goes. The glue took some work. I used Acryli-clean (DX-330). A glue solvent that won't harm the gel. A little patience and elbow grease and it was off in about 20-30 minutes. The new logo will line up over the old and it is easy to see.

While the old was off and I was cleaning it up..I also compounded the entire area to get the dirt out and shine it up. Then I used a Q-tip and acetone to go over the old lettering outline and make sure it wasn't too slick for the new emblem to adhere. The acetone will remove any wax residue.

The Wolf....that floor looks fantastic!
Thank you...Here's a couple other shots with all of it finally down...I will finish the hatches next week. I think the hardest part was starting in the corner under the sink by the fridge and getting it lined up. I learned [pretty fats that being off just an 1/8" in that corner starting piece would make me 2" off when I worked forward towards the master. It was a fun learning experience/project. But it is all square and ready for the hatches.

If the first piece wasn't right...it was a real mess. Needless to say It took a few hours to get this right and the only true test of its accuracy was to connect all the flooring and run it forward and up to all the hatches. Once we get that right...it came together nicely.

Thanks again,

That really turned out nice. How are you doing the hatches?
That will be the last part and should have it done next week.
The hatch inserts were cut on a CNC table..which basically made them a perfect fit and perfectly square for the hatch lids. The hatch lids are also being cut on the same table with the master template that was created through a digitizing machine. They will be a super nice fit allowing about .03125" around the floor edges...nearly seamless. The hatch will have a slight back bevel to it so that it doesn't bind when being pulled in or out. I can send pics next week once they are completed.
The goal was to not have trim rings or trim edges that raised above the floor,,,we are trying for a perfectly smooth surface throughout....stay tuned.
