I have the KVH M3 but haven't had it turned on for years since the reception was SD and didn't watch TV that much. Is it my understanding that those units will be obsolete in a year or two?

Basically my M1 is, from what KVH has told me. I have sent it back twice for pixelation......

Thought I would share new cockpit TV install. Married it to WiFi, DTV, local TV through Glomex, and pumped sound through Fusion system and amp. Created mount in 316 SS, it swivels and moves vertically about 5” if needed. It’s a Samsung 32 smart TV curved in white.

Very nice! Exactly what I wanted. Just couldn't justify the price so I got a cheaper model instead. Did get one I white though! So happy I did.

Power should be under the admiral's seat via an access port under the captain's chair. Otherwise, run one from the outlet in front of the captain's cubby on the stbd side.

I have never been in there...that would be easy if it is there ...We always use that spot over the ice bucket for a fan so I have been wanting to put an outlet there for a while...Thanks

We pulled from the captains cubby starboard. Easy.

That is amazing - take it on the road.... how about coming to KY?
Thanks for the offer and I like KY but... I do what work I can on my boat only :)) but usually leave to better minds than mine and there are a lot of those!

Hey '@villain style' - I just did this last month.

1) View attachment 57829 - I went with the Samsung M4500 28" smart TV. I found it at Best Buy for $153.00.

2) View attachment 57830 - While the TV was retracted into the wall, I removed the four black screws holding the cover. You have to be careful as you remove the last screw (helps to have a second person holding it up. Alternatively if it was just you, you could tape it in place w/ blue painters masking tape. After I removed the panel - I painted the rest of the back flat black, as the dimensions of the new TV would otherwise expose some of the unpainted surface.

3) View attachment 57831 - With the back panel removed, I unscrewed the old TV and removed the old wires. The only old wire I ended up keeping was the CATV-COAX. I was planning to route 2x HDMI, Cat 5 Ethernet, and TOSLINK to the new TV.

4) View attachment 57832 - I removed the front wood grain laminate piece by unscrewing 4x silver screws that were holding it in place. I brought it home, and used a Jig Saw with a special blade designed not to splinter laminates to cut off the left and right parts of the laminate (since the new TV is wider!). You will note that I carefully taped off the cutting area to minimize any unintentional splintering. I also ended up screwing the TV directly to the original back metal bracket. I did have to go to Home Depot to buy some extra long metric screws that would fit into the 4 VESA mounting holes on the new TV as the old screws were not long enough.

5) View attachment 57833 - Here is the finished product. I used flat black paint to paint over the parts I had cut off (after sanding them). I am glad I went with a 28" TV, even though it meant cutting off the sides. Nobody has noticed - and it looks like the drop down was always meant to hold a TV that size.

NEXT STEPS: View attachment 57834 -I eventually want to convert the TV to run off 12V, so that I don't always have to run the generator when untied from the dock. This particular TV has an external 19V power supply. I purchased a "uxcell Power Converter Regulator DC12V(10V~16V) Step-Up to DC19V 8A 152W Waterproof Voltage Convert Transformer" from Amazon for $19.99. My plan is to do surgery on the original power supply that came with the TV, and install this / wire into the 12v so that I can use the TV when not tied to the dock.

JANUARY 2019 UPDATE - Just an update - I finally got around to pulling new 12V and HDMI from the power panel area to the area above the microwave. Here are some details:

1) Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 10.47.58 AM.png - I bought this HDMI splitter from amazon for $32.00. It runs off of USB power, so I installed a 12v to USB converter so I could run off the battery and not the generator. The idea is that I can now pre-download movies to our iPhone or iPad, plug the phone into this with the Apple Lightening to HDMI adapter and show the movies on all 4 TV's on the boat. I am also going to have inputs so I can have the Fusion DVD player as a source as well as the Raymarine eS127 display as a potential source.

2) Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 10.44.46 AM.png - I bought this Wireless Endoscopic Camera off Amazon for $35.99. It streams to my iPhone or iPad, so I can feed it into one of the small openings on the boat and get a view of what is on the other side. I felt it was key to have this to feed my new 12v and HDMI cables across the ceiling.
3) Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 10.59.50 AM.pngScreen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.00.00 AM.pngScreen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.00.14 AM.pngScreen Shot 2019-01-08 at 11.00.26 AM.png - I used the Endoscopic Camera along with some standard Home Depot fishing tape so get a guide string from 1) the port salon light fixture to the power panel 2) from the port salon fixture to the starboard salon fixture 3) from the starboard salon fixture to above the galley microwave. It took some careful tries and some help from my 14yo and 12yo kids, but the camera and fishing tape really helped do it and made sure we were feeding things in the right direction.

4) I put my 2x 12v wires (one for galley TV / one for master stateroom TV) into a 1/2" Ancor split loom purchased from West Marine, and then put my 2x HDMI, 1x CAT5, 1x speaker wire into a 3/4" Ancor split loom. The 12v leads will be used to directly power the Samsung TV's using the uxcell Power Converter mentioned in the previous post.

5) I used the guide wire to push/pull everything starting from the area above the microwave, using the light fixtures as intermediate stops so it didn't get hung up on anything, all the way back to the power panel.

I ran out of time before being able to finish the hookup - but the most daunting part for me is over - how to get the wires / HDMI from the port power panel to the starboard galley!!

I was going to bring up 'bush whiskey' in MM's booze thread...figured it wasn't sophisticated enough. I spent some time in S. IL and W. KY when a kid. Used to get the 'shine' from about elbow deep in the ice on the fresh fish truck. Talk about sippin' whiskey.:D

That setup looks awesome. Curved and in white! Beautiful.

Show us some pics of the mount.

Can you post up a picture of your steering wheel? is that a stock one?

The steering wheel is not stock. I bought it at Pounder and here is the link. Mine is silver and black. https://www.searay-parts.com/Custom-Steering-Wheel-Silver-p/stwhw360.htm

Here is a pic of the mount. We have not quite finished as it needs a grommet for the electrical hole we drilled and we are cleaning up the backing plate to be finished in a machined look. Thank you for the compliment!

Been thinking about running HDMI through the boat. Which route do the wires go to get to the master stateroom tv, aft stateroom tv and up on deck to that TV?

Starboard side, we ran from (fwd) through a closet access, then a galley access, to in back of galley sink to a cabinet access we had to the right of our drop down TV. Earlier 420’s have a TV mounted in same hole then we went across ceiling into aft stateroom and then cockpit area inside where we found access in back of cubby compartment lower right side of captain chair. PITA!!

Trying to trace since I need to replace the fitting and hose and can’t figure out how to just replace the fitting. I tried some magic tape but that’s not where it’s worn out. Under cockpit sink. Anyone know?
