Noflex Digestor for bilge cleaning?

The Digest It is useful bacteria that breakdown waste into much less objectionable compounds. According to the Marine Santation website Norflex Digestor hepls promote aerobic bacteria (which is what the Digest It is) and breaks down compounds that cause odors. I have been spraying Norflex on older sanitation hoses in the bilge hoping to get another year or two.

I agree with Dave. If you read and believe, they appear to do the same thing in the same way. During pump out, I cannot tell any difference whatsoever. I will try an experiement though...I have taken a TSB of Norflex and put in a dirty bilge sump with some water and in 30 min or so, it foams up, and the sump is clean. I have never tried this with the Digest It, but I will at first chance and report back.

Ladies and gents, you are likely paying far too much for this stuff.... especially if you are paying 32 bucks for 16 oz...

The active ingredient (80% by weight) is “disodium carbonate with hydrogen peroxide compound”..... there is another common chemical name for this - “sodium percarbonate”

It’s found in many formulations in the laundry isle at your supermarket - mainly in stain pre treatment or nappy (diaper) sanitiser/soakers, I get a no brand one for $2.90 (Aussie bucks) per kilogram. (It’s only 30% by weight , so you use 3 times more, so that works out to $2.77 usd for the equivalent to a 16 oz pack of noflex)
 
My only reservation about using something like you suggest from the laundry aisle is would it lack any lubricants etc. otherwise found in marine applications.
 
Yes Oxyclean or the generic version is basically the same. Look up the MSDS on each of them to find out. We have been using it for some time now. We also use Oxyclean to get out hard to clean stains that get on the boat both inside and out.

Is the pure stuff what you have been using in your Black tank? If so what amount and how often are you adding it?

Also nice choice on your model boat..

The MSDS for NoFlex is basically a mixture of the primary chemicals in OxyClean and washing soda. I don't see any lubricants in NoFlex. I don't think NoFlex is a magic mixture. But if it works.....

Kind makes you wonder that if it were that simple, why would big industrial sites that use NoFlex just go the route of Oxyclean and washing soda? But, I am always in favor of you home chemists to be on the bleeding edge for the rest of us! Carry on with all experiments and look forward to your reports.
