Music thread - best guitar solo

I love the collaboration, that’s cool, though I am not on Spotify.

When comparing,!one difficulty is different generations have different levels of technology available for the creation of their music. That makes it really tough

Zappa - Montana

Santana - Soul Sacrifice (Woodstock ‘69)

Martin Barre - Aqualung

Frampton/Marriott - Stone Cold Fever (live Fillmore)

There’s too many to pick a single favorite, but I dig these and many already mentioned.

Stranglehold by Ted Nugent, David Gilmore Pink Floyd, so many others as mentioned previously. Knopler and Frampton are good as well.

Terry Kath - 25 or 6 to 4

Absolutely awesome! I remember playing in a cover band in school, and having our guitar player butcher Terry's parts on 25 or 6 to 4, they are not easy. Jimmy Hendrix was interviewed saying that Terry was the best guitar player he'd ever seen, was doing things with the guitar way before his time. Unfortunately, his time ended way too soon.

If you've never seen it, this was a live version they did at Tanglewood in western Mass back in 1970:

He starts around 3:00 and does a solo totally different from the album, that's what I loved about these guys, they actually played music, improvised, gave you something new live. (Plus I loved the horn bands back then.)

Steely Dan- Reelin' in the years. Even Eric Clapton said he had wished he had written this.
Skunk Baxter has always been given credit but I think it was someone else on the original release.

I saw a Steely Dan tribute band this summer and they were fantastic. Played every song I could think of even with help from my phone. LOL They were called Reely Dan...

Few thoughts here. I've seen Knopfler twice now. Might have to make it a third. I'm assuming he's playing Molson Canadian Amphitheater (Budweiser stage now)? Ok, nevermind, looked it up. Bummer, since that would have been a perfect venue, since the afterparty on Toronto Islands is always interesting. Anyway, I've seen him at Landmark Theater in Syracuse, and University of Buffalo. Both shows were amazing.

The intro to Money still literally gives me goosebumps when played on a good system. Brothers in Arms was remastered for the SACD format, and it's one of the few albums where I'll sit in the sweet spot of my theater system with a glass of scotch, and just listen front to back. Steely Dan's Gaucho is another.

Funny about Buckcherry. They're definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, in the same way that 80's hair bands are.

We’ll probably make the run to Wilson from Rochester and stay a night then cross to Toronto. We’ll have to have a beer and put some music on!

Donald Fagan has figured out that the money in music these days is in touring. We saw Steely Dan twice in the last several years in Nashville.......the last time Walter Becker was still alive and was touring with them.

Try to see t hem if they are near.......they sound as good as they ever did.

Nice! Sounds like a plan.

Yeah, saw Steely Dan (sans Becker) last summer. Reelin' in the years was, of course, the encore. Great concert.

Wow! I read through all these and almost every song I heard in my head. I'd have to say that Mark Knopfler tops my list on "Money for Nothing".

But...I'll just leave this here...

Going to the legends, there is one you cannot leave off the list. More influential than just about anyone, but not really for playing, although he was a great player. HEre is one video but there are a lot he did late in life.:

My youngest son is a 6 and 8 string guitar player and he has introduced me to a lot of music I would have not started to listen to by on my own. One band that comes to mind is Chon.
