460 DA Owners Thread

Stuart, I guess things just change. If you would have asked me three months ago if I was going to sell, the answer would have been hell no! We just bought a new to us house and the renovation will take awhile. Then my bride wants to spend some time in Spain with her mother so no time left. Best of luck too you!!

Mike
Mike-
I think I see a common thread here, as we, too, bought a new home about the time that our usage started to decrease. Hmmmm, I guess we should have stayed in the old shack where my wife enjoyed going to the boat!
It's been a lot worse for us though, I had an auto accident, T-boned in the driver's side, and have been recovering for the past 18 mo. I recently had to have back surgery to help alleviate the pain. This getting old stuff sucks!
GLWTS!

Good luck guys. I was thinking the same after eleven seasons with our 460. The boat is near perfect with little left to do and we've been just about everywhere we want to go and then some.
So recognizing that lull in life, I bought a condo on the water and thought that was our future. But I was told by my wife, "not so fast". "Rent out the condo and let's get a few more years of boating in." Gee, I guess I'll just have to keep the boat.....
James, Any interest in switching wives-LOL! Just kidding! I just thought I would be on the water so much longer than this lasted....

Sorry to hear about the accident! I am glad you are recovering!! Getting old sucks for sure. Not meant for wimps! :) Like a friend said " If I had known I would live this long I would have taken better care of myself " Best of luck and should you find yourself headed for Florida let me know. We can get together and talk 460!!

Stuart,
Too funny! I've always followed the philosophy that, "If the admiral is happy, the navy is happy."
But a lot of us are thinking the same way, perhaps for different reasons. Also the current high resale values and the changes at Sea Ray have muddied the waters. It's tempting to sell the boat and make a change, but what do you replace it with? Or do you get out of boating or maybe just downsize? Any "next" bigger boat that we might consider is out of the budget so that's why some of us look at "appreciating assets" like vacation properties. And through all this, we still cannot break from our strong boating ties.
I hope your recovery progresses well.

Yes James, you are so correct that if the admiral isn't happy....Also, it is so unusual to even think of being out of 'dancing after nearly 30 years with a Sea Ray! Heck, I've had a SR longer than my 1st AND 2nd wife-Combined!
Yes, the surgery was a success, so just hoping to continue to heal. All the best to you James!

Mike-
Thanks for the thoughts! Yes, I'm healing, but never thought I would be only putting 30-40 hours on the boat per year. Typically we were running 80-100 hours and that's when I am the happiest. All the best!

Just wondering if any of you fellow 460 owners have come up with a good cup holder at the helm. With all the new yettie style cup then tend to be top heavy and don’t work with the cup holders behind the helm.
I have a suction cup one that kind of works . Just looking for something better and form and function.

I removed the "wire" style holders and installed these deeper larger holders behind the helm seat. You don't have to wire the lights, but they work great. The drill out for them takes out the holes for the original style perfectly. Drill and drop into place. I ordered these from eBay.

Thinking of doing the same. The wire ones don’t really work.

Thank you for the pics.

I put in Yeti Specific ones from a guy on eBay. I just replaced the one behind the helm seat and ordered another one for right behind the double helm companion seat. You will need a 4 1/8” hole saw and it works awesome. I swear I took a picture of the install to share but of course I can’t find it now. I’ll take another one this weekend. These things work great and cannot spill regardless of wind weather or waves.

Love it!
Ordering four now!

Where did you mount it? On our 460 there just isn’t a great place and everything has some odd angle

I just looked at some photos of 460's on YachtWorld, but couldn't really tell how much of an angle there is on the starboard side. Here's where I mounted mine, and it's only on a slight angle on the starboard side. I unfortunately couldn't find a pic of it in the open position.

I mounted one like it down by my right leg on the access hatch to stbd. of the helm seat. It is one of the ugly plastic white ones, but it worked...I just found my Christmas preset from the Admiral to me. Stainless steel always looks so much better...out with the plastic white one!!

( yes boredom of winter has set in)
I look at a ad for a 460 and saw these pictures of the aft.

I have felt that the couch is a waist in the aft and would like to do something like this.
1>anyone on here make the same conversion?
2> does anyone know the owner of this one. Would love to gain some insite of how hard it was to do.

You can see the boat name in one of the pictures.

That's a good idea and pretty good design optimizing space

Depends on your use, doesn't it?

If I'm watching TV in the main salon instead of the cockpit, then my wife likes to have her sofa in the aft cabin to read. So for a couple's use, the original set up works well because we only have guests on board occasionally. However when we do take guests on a longer trip, or even for a weekend, then that room becomes a bedroom in minutes. We deploy the bed arrangement and I usually have "the bed" out from the aft wall 10-12" to make it into a full queen size arrangement. I do that by tightly rolling a couple of blankets, setting them alongside the "mattress" against the aft wall and then covering the whole thing with a memory foam and then cover it with a bottom sheet (very comfortable arrangement). After the trip is over and the guests depart, it's back to being used as a second salon with a couch for seating.

We just like the looks of that large flowing area with two seating zones as opposed to boats that have a separate aft cabin and a smaller salon, but it's all a matter of preference. That is probably the main reason we never went to a 48DA, although we love that boat from other aspects.

Fortunately the design of the 460 is very versatile but if you are constantly using the aft stateroom for a bedroom then the option above is worth considering, just maybe not a real plus for the next potential owner.

I hope everyone is having a great December. I need help deciding where to pull power from to
run this TV I installed in my cockpit behind the helm seat. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

The easiest spot would be to tie into the power outlet in the bilge. There is an access to pass a wire up to the area under the stbd arch from the bilge making it easy and out of sight.
