Rumor has it that the Sea Ray dealer in my area is bringing in a new line, Maritimo, for 40+ yachts. What are dealers in your area doing?

I looked st the new x60 Maritimo at FLIBS and I’m fairly impressed. Nice built boat with a superb engine room with watertight door and some great design/layout with the v berth angles and the rear master and the optional tender garage/cabin/ beach club. The only thing I didn’t personally care for was the Volvo drivetrain witch can be subsitutied with other power.

I really liked the Maritimo and the Neptunus yachts.

I really like the Martimo boats. I think the only negative in the past has been their US dealer network.

Marquis has a very nice playbook for the future, I think the Marquis/Carver group will be a dominant US based manufacturer.

The problem dealers will have with Carver/Marquis is their history. Under prior management, the company stopped paying dealers for the warranty work they did. Carver management later filed bankruptcy and included the money owed their dealers in the liabilities. The dealers eventually got pennies on the dollar for their warranty claims costing the dealer network 100's of thousands of $$ to millions that they can never recover.

I know that this was under prior ownership and management, but most dealers were smaller privately owned and guys who have been successful in the boat business over a long period of time have equally long memories. I know Rob Parmentier and I know how dynamic and positive he can be, but this was/is a big pill for ex-Carver and Marquis dealers to swallow. I have no doubt that Rob will be successful, Unfortunately, I don't look for it to be with the previous dealer network.

I always liked Carver boats. When they introduced their new line in ~2013, I really thought they took things to a new level with the C40. I have always had a thing for clean Euro styling and I thought they hit the mark. Appears to be quite a bit of boat for the money as well.

Cruisers Yachts moving in to fill the void.
Cruisers are decent cut not as solid as a Sea Ray. I test drove a couple, including the 48 Cantius, and it rocked and bobbed all over the place. The hull is much thinner and it just didn’t feel as robust.

Maritimo and Prestige... a friend put a deposit down on one of the last 2019 Searay 520 $1.5M... He went down to Lauderdale and looked at the Maritimo X50 at $1M...basically the same boat.... problem is delivery is late August next year... he backed out of the 520 and is working on delivery date of the X50. Bigger engines faster boat and he was impressed with quality

We’re looking at Tiara, Princess, and Riviera. How would you guys say Maritimo compares with them in terms of quality?

There were two at the Cleveland show. I intended to tour them both, but the first one was so pathetic that taking time to view the other one wasn't worth it. They really do appear to be designed by people who've never boated before.

Probably for buyers that have never boated before...

The Galeons do tend to look like irons, which is my only real objection to them. Plenty of others also look like irons, or sneakers in the case of some Sea Rays. The Galeons are designed and built in the area of Gdańsk, Poland by skilled people who have been in the shipbuilding trade for a very long time. So quality is not necessarily my hesitation with them.

I think there is an a** for every seat so the opinions will be varied. My limited experience on a Maritimo I was impressed and here are the basic reasons why.

In no particulate order.

The v berth is now usable with the angled configuration.

The engineroom was impressive and watertight. As well as being able to walk all around in.

The beach club option is a cool feature
And it can be another stateroom or tender garage.

They werent married to a single engine manufacturer and seemed willing to accommodate whatever the buyers wants which to me is a big win.

They don’t use pods. I boat in shallow water and personally just don’t see the need and added expense.

The engines are moved significantly forward and are straight drives.

The bow is actually usable with a couch feature. We watch fireworks 10 weekends a year and would actually use this more then sunpads.

The storage was incredible. The hatches are deep and well lit.
