my luck... repower

Sounds like your Admiral is wise. The age of the accessories definitely is an issue and you can still resell your old heads. Good luck.

How much more will a closed cooling reman engine cost vs. a raw water cooled engine?

How much value will that add to the boat when you plan to sell it in 4-5 years?

Are there any other cost savings in switching to closed cooling?

Plug in the numbers and see if there is a financial benefit or cost to choosing closed cooling.

I am doing a re power as well. Was thinking about a fuel injected SBC but I have decided to go with another gen 6 454. Been looking at all kinds of re man engine company's, Jasper, Jeggs, all of them. I am either going to build my own if I can find a good core to use, or go with Tim Mangus at Mangus Machine in Western Ny. He will use my oiling system, carb, and ignition and Dyno it and tune it so it will be a drop in installation. Building my own will probably save me 2k but like I said, I would need to find a good core

+1 on Merkel.

They did some work for me 10 years ago on a 340 Dodge.
I had them balance the rotating assembly and a few other odds and ends.
Very knowledgeable and professional.

So I pulled the trigger...

New Merc reman 383 Fresh Water Cooled complete crate on order, boat dropped off at shop... pick up next week!

I stripped it down, have to provide core with heads for which I have my old ones giving back too..

Parts anyone? LOL

Update...

Here's her new heart! Runs great!

The guys at Innovation Marine here in Sarasota did an outstanding job!

Went to the keys and had no problems..

Looks amazing, congrats, it’s like having a brand new boat, at least the engine room looks brand new from those images.
