Re power in process!
A Coast Guardsman (retired) is stranded (hospitalized) in Athens Greece and needs help getting home for effective treatment. Some kind of blood problem that is not responding to antibiotics. Request for help came out over the weekly Coast Guard Ham radio net on 14.300 mhz. Sat.

I don't have any details but do have a contact. I don't think this is any kinda scam, but can't be sure. I've worked with this group of Hams for years. They have helped a lot of boaters over the years - most are members of the Maritime Mobile Service Net - a radio watch group on the same freq. (If you are an active offshore boater you should be aware of this group)

Came to me that somebody here on CSR might have a contact (military, commercial or charity) or a bright idea on how to help get this Vet home. Space available on Military Medivac flight would be ideal! Probably just need to get this in front of the right people - but I don't know who to contact.
Thanks
Larry

With this gentleman's service history, contact his Congressman to see if there is any buttons that can be pushed.
Ya just never know until you inquire. Also, has any member of the family tried the Coast Guard? Maybe they have a source to help. The certainly have the personnel and things that fly.

hi very sad my daughters a coast guardsman ill ck with her you would think our military would help this hero

I don't doubt that he was injured in a fall but that gofundme write up doesn't sound right. The doctors aren't sure what is wrong with him and they have kept him in a coma for a few weeks? This happened on October 18th. Now they need an staffed air ambulance to bring him back to the States? This sounds a lot more like a brain injury/stroke than it does a fall.

It just sounds off. First call is to the Embassy in Athens. Second call is to find a doctor who can determine what is wrong with him. Having a vague and weird story won't help with fundraising.
